ATTACHMENT FOR INFANTS HIGH CHAIRS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OLAF I'IAMRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Butte, in the county of Silverbow, State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Infants High Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to high chairs of the type used for children and which have a swinging tray pivoted to the back.

The invention more particularly relates to an attachment for chairs of this character.

It is a well known fact that children are very prone to climb up and stand in the seat of a chair so that they frequently fall out of their high chair and injure themselves. This is caused by the arms of the chair being too low to prevent them toppling sidewise.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel attachment for chairs of the character described, the attachment being so arranged as to constitute a guard whereby a child standing in the chair is prevented from falling out of the same.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of a novel arrangement of adjustable arms, legs and protector bar adapted to be secured to a babys high chair.

The invention further consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and :-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a high chair having this invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of a portion of one of the arms showing the manner of adjusting the length of the same.

The invention comprises a pair of arms each consisting of what may be termed a rear section having a head 10 provided with a slot 11 which fits over the pivot A of the tray arm B, which latter is pivoted in the usual manner to the back of the chair C and serves to support one side of the tray D. This rear portion of the arm extends upward nearly at right angles to the head 10 as indicated at 12 and from the top of this upwardly extending portion is bent outward as at 13, thence forward as at 14, inward as at 15 and again forward as at 16. This forwardly extending portion 16 forms the front end of the rear arm section and is provided with a longitudinally disposed slot 17.

At 18 is the front section or forward section of the arm. Extending through the rear end of the forward section and through the slot 17 is a bolt 19 provided with a wing nut 20 so that the bolt constitutes a clamp bolt and serves to secure the two sections of the arm in adjusted position. It is to be understood that both of the arms are precisely alike in construction. Each of the sections 18 is recessed as at 21 to receive the rabbeted end 22 of a protector bar section 23, the sections 23 being secured to the respective sections 18 by clamp bolts 24. One of the sections 23 has secured thereto a plate 25 having a slot 26 formed longitudinally of its free end and this free or slotted end overlaps the other section 23 when the device is assembled. A clamp bolt 27 serves to secure the two sections 23 in adjusted position, the bolt passing through the slot and the section overlapped thereby. Fixed to each of the arm sections 18 at its forward end is a leg 28 and secured to the bottoms of these legs are foot plates 29 so arranged that the lower extremity of each plate extends inward as at 30 beneath the lower extremity of the respective leg 28. Through these portions 30 extend thumb screws 31 so that when the device is applied to a chair and the tray D engaged between the lower extremities of the legs and ,the portions 30 of the foot plates the screws 31 may be screwed up to hold the legs firmly in the tray.

It will be observed'that this construction provides a pair of supplemental arms which are raised considerably above the arms B and a protector bar 23 which connects the forward ends of the arms so that a child standing in the chair has a guard extending around it which is substantially breast high. It will also be observed that by means 'of the peculiar adjustments provided the device may be fitted to any existing high chair and that when so fitted it may be turned back in the tray in order to remove the child, the arms having their rear sections so arranged that they move freely past the back of the chair while the protector bar passes readily over the top. There has thus been provided a simple and eflicientdevice of the kind described and for the purpose specified.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

1. An attachment for high chairs including a tray, consisting of a pair of arms adapted to be pivotally attached to a chairback and extending forwardly therefrom above the tray, supporting legs connecting the forward ends of said arms and the tray, and a protector bar extending horizontally between the forward ends of said arms, said protector bar consisting of sections connected together for longitudinal adjustment.

2. An attachment for high chairs including a tray, consisting of a pair of arms adapted to be pivotally attached to a chairback and extending forwardly therefrom above the tray, each consisting of two sections connected together for longitudinal adjustment, supporting legs connecting the forward ends of said arms and the tray, and a protector bar extending horizontally between the forward ends of said arms, said protector bar consisting of sections connected together for longitudinal adjustment.

An attachment for high chairs provided with swinging trays, including a pair of arms provided with slots engageable over the pivots of the tray arms, said arms each comprising a rear section extending upwardly, outwardly and forwardly and having a slotted forward end, a forward section connecting each rear section, supporting legs connecting the forward ends of said arms and the tray, and a protector bar extending horizontally between the forward ends of said arms.

An attachment for high chairs provided with swinging trays, including a pair of arms provided with slots engageable over the pivots of the tray arms, said arms each comprising a rear section extending upwardly, outwardly and forwardly and having a slotted. forward end, a forward section, and a bolt adjustably connecting the sections of each arm, a depending leg secured to the forward extremity of each arm, a clamp on the lower end of each leg adapted to engage the tray, and a protector bar extending horizontally between the forward ends of said arms.

An attachment for high chairs provided with swinging trays, including a pair of arms provided with slots engageable over the pivots of the tray arms, said arms each comprising a rear section extending up wardly, outwardly and forwardly and having a slotted forward end, a forward section and a bolt adjustably connecting the sections of each arm; a depending leg secured to the forward extremity of each arm, a clamp on the lower end of each leg adapted to engage a tray frame; and a protector bar extending between the forward extremities of said arms, said protector bar compris ing a pair of alined sections each having one end fixed to a respective arm, a plate fixed to one of the sections and overlapping the other section the overlapping end of said plate being longitudinally slotted, and a clamp bolt passing through said slot and the overlapped section of the bar.
