i the flashing of a roofing only a portion of the way up the parapet; and until the introduction of the raggle block covered by Letters Patent No. 969,036 issued to me August 30, 1910, difficulty was experienced in anchoring the flashing in a manner to prevent water from entering between it and the wall. By the invention shown b said patent I provided a row of raggle blocks forming anchors and water sheds for the lflashing. Walls so equipped, as well as those of ordinary construction, are usually covered with coping blocks.

The object of my present invention is to effect a reduction in the cost of equipping a parapet with a water, shed and coping by combining these two articles; thereby enabling the flashing to be carried up the full height of the parapet; but to enable this to be done it is necessary that provision be made for firmly anchoring the coping so that by no possibility it may be become dislodged, since any displacement thereof would result in injury to the roofing.

The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a parapet portion of a party wall show-ing one of the coping blocks with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an elevation showing a series of blocks connected together. Fig. 3 shows my improvement as applied to a side wall of a building.

In Letters Patent No. 969,036, issued to me August 30, 1910, I showed and described a coping for the parapet portion of a wall composed of a series of similarly constructed blocks, the vertical faces of which form water-sheds which terminate in substantially `horizontal edges, and in one or both of the severe weathercoping blocks are blown from position, often causing serious damage to life and property. It is the purpose of my invention to avoid all such danger by securely anchoring the co ing blocks to the walls, and securing the ashing directly to the coping blocks, such flashing aiding in securing the blocks in place.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the parapet portion of a building wall which is shown in Fig. 1 as a party-wall and in Fig. 3 as an end or side wall. One end of each coping block, 2, is bell-shape, as at 3, to receive the unenlarged end of the adj oining block. The vertical faces of the blocks form water-sheds and terminate in substantially horizontal edges, 5, the lower inset vertical faces, 6, according to the form shown in Fig. 1, being formed with grooves, 8, to receive the ends of roof flashings, 9, which are held by anchors, 10. According to the form shown in Fig. 3, the anchorage groove is in one side of the block only, but in either event the flashing being extended up the full height of the parapet and securely fastened to the coping blocks aids in holding them in position on the parapet.

In the lower horizontal portion, 12, which connects the inset vertical faces of each coping block I form a dowel chase 13, which is shown as being continuous throughout the length of the block. This chase forms an open-bottom pocket which is designed to receive the upper projecting ends of anchor pins 14. The latter are embedded in the building wall, preferably to the depth of two la ers of bricks. The pins are usually securcc in the chase or pocket by the cement which is employed for securing the blocks to the walls. By means of these anchor pins the blocks are securely held and all danger of their being blown from position is avoided. This enables the flashing to be secured directly to the coping blocks and thus not only form a protection for the parapet but aid in holding the blocks in place and rendering unnecessary the use of a separate row of raggle blocks to form the necessary water shed for the flashing. If the blocks were not securely fastened to the coping it would be disadvantagcous to secure the flashing thereto, since any displacement of the coping would work an injury to the roofing. To strengthen the block I preferably connect the dowel chase to the top by a vertical web 15, and to guard against all possibility of displacement I form the horizontal portions 12 With depending flanges 16 Which extend down over the corner faces of the Wall.

I claim as my invention:

1. The combination with the parapet portion of a building Wall, and a flashing eX- tending up said parapet to the top thereof, of a coping for the top of said parapet comprising blocks to Which the ashing is klixedly secured, and means extending from the parapet for holding the blocks thereon, such means comprising anchor pins projecting from the uppervsurface of said parapet, said blocks having in their undersides grooves to accommodate said anchor pins.

2. The combination with the parapet portion of a building Wall, of a coping therefor comprising blocks having overlapping en gaging portions and formed in their under-v sides with continuous centrally arranged grooves, and anchor pins extending outvvardly from the parapet and designed to fit at any point in the grooves of the blocks, such grooves being designed to receive cement or other binding material.
