Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. Wnvoxnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Buggy-Trenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wrenches and more particularly to that class adapted to be used in removing the nuts which retain vehicle wheels upon their axles.
' An object of this invention is to provide a wrench of such novel construction that after it has been properly attached to the hub of a wheel all that is required to remove the nut from the axle is to rotate the wheel to the rear, after which operation the nut will be held in its proper position within the hub.
Another object of this invention is the production of a wrench for the purpose described comprising a plate provided with a socket for the reception of a nut and means therein for holding the said nut against displacement after the wheel has been removed from its axle and a pair of parallel arms carrying adjustable set screws for the purpose of clamping the device upon the hub of the wheel.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a wrench comprising but few parts which are so simple in construction that they can be manufactured at a minimum cost.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing by characters of reference the numeral 1 designates the hub of a wheel of the usual construction, the same being held upon its axle 2 by the usual retaining nut 3.

Substantially parallel arms 7 overlie the outwardly extending flange of the hub 1 and are provided at their outer ends with threaded apertures for the reception of radially adjustable set screws 8 carrying upon their inner ends swiveled heads 9 to the inner faces of which cushions or pads 10 are fastened for the purpose of preventing any unnecessary marring of the wheel.
It is evident that when the socket 5 is slipped over the nut 3 and the device securely clamped to the hub of the wheel by means of the set screws 8, all that is required to remove the retaining nut from the axle is to revolve the wheel to the rear. Retaining springs 6 secured within the socket 5 serve to hold the nut 3 in its normal position within the hub and it is obvious that when it is wished to replace the wheel and nut upon the axle, all that is necessary is to replace the wheel and rotate it in the opposite direction.
Having thus fully described this invention what is claimed as new is:
The combination with a plate having inturned extensions at right angles thereto and at opposite ends of the same, of an integral boss on the plate medially thereof and having a socket for the reception of a nut, resilient members secured within the socket for engagement with such nut when inserted therein, the said inturned extensions being provided with alining threaded apertures, clamping screws adjustably engaged in said apertures and having winged heads at their outer ends, disks having counter seats in their outer faces, swiveling members passed centrally through the disks and engaged in the inner ends of the screws and also having heads rotatably engaged in the counter seats in said disks, resilient members secured to the outer faces of the said disks for contacting with a hub to prevent marring thereof when the plate is secured in position thereon by the clamping screws.
