Description
B. LANGLOTZ.
TIRE BOLT WRENCH.
APPLICATION FILED JANS, 190s,

Buren and State of harms plied reventin the nut socket from BERNHARD LANGLOTZ, OF BANGOR, MICHIGAN'.
TIRE-BOLT WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented .rune 1, 1909.
Application lcd January 9, 1909. Serial No. `71,519.
To all, whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNHARD LANGLo'rz, a citizen of thel United States of America, residing at'Bangor, in the county of Van Michigan, have invented certain-new and useful Improvemcntsin Tire-Bolt Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tire bolt wrenches and has reference particularly to a device adapted to be attached -to an ordinary drill press for the purpose of rotating a Wrench designed to remove nuts froml bolts.
A nvobject of this -invention is topi-Ovide novel means applicable to drill presses now -1n common use whereby'a nut socket is rotatably mounted in a frame, the said lframe a shaft or shank adapted to be a toa chuck of a drill press whereby tle said shank is rotated, means being also provided for communicating the motion of the shank to the nut socket.
A further object of this invention is to provide a guard which may act in conjunction with the nut socket for the purpose of 'marrlng the elly tojw, ch the nut is applied.
A further object ofthls invention is to provide novel means for holding a bolt against rotation While the nut is being removed therefrom or applied thereto, means being also *rovided for ermitting the adjustment ofj the bolt holding lever in order that it may accommodate itself to rims of different depths, thereby insuring that the` bolt engaging projection of the lever lwill register with the said bolt.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the -arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed. I
In describing the inventionA in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this speclfcation wherein like characters denote'corresponding,
parts in the several views, in which- Figure 1, illustrates a nut turningdevice applied to a drill press; and Figs. 2 and 3, are detail views thereof.
In these drawings A, denotes a frame hav ing an arm B, designed to be attached or clamped to the frame of a drill press. The
frame A, is provided with two apertures C. and D, the former of which is designed to're' ceive a shank E, and the latter of which is vP, is supported tated' and as said socket is designed to bel applied to a nut of atire bolt, the said nut is turned on the bolt and is drawn therefrom. The socket F, is provided with removable filling blocks G', the said filling blocks having apertures therein of different sizes to fit corres ondingly sized nuts, that is tovsay, the filling blocks when applied to the sockets may be made to operate on bolts of any size from one-half vto one-eighth of an inch in diameter, or the socket maT b e ofa size to operate on a bolt of greater diameter, that being a detail of construction which can be varied to 'suit particular requirements.
The frame A, is provided with an extension H, having a slot I, therein in which the pivot J, of a lever K, is adjusted by means of a screw L. The lever K, is rovided with a bolt engaging lug or s ur and said lever is slotted as shown at l\, to receive the shank E. A spring G, is inte osed between the frame A, and the lever and said spring normall holds the said lever elevated. The spur or ug M, is designed to engage the head of a bolt to prevent turning of the said bolt when the nut-is being turned on it and as the fulcrum of the lever may be changed by the screw L, 1'the position of thespur or lug M, may be changed in orderthat it will engage theheads of tire bolts regardless of the depth. of the f elly.
In order to revent the socket from injuring the felly OP the wheel, an apertured plate on the frame A, by means of the arms Q, and said plate may be'removed ow' to the fact that the said arms are remova ly seated in sockets in said frame.
I claim- 1. In a tire bolt Wrench, a frame having .an .arm designed to be attachedy to a drill press, said frame having an extension, alever pivoted to the extension, shanks rotatable m the frame, means forgearing the shanks together, a nut socketcarrie'd by one of the shanks,"a guard comprisingl an apertured disk having a series of arms and the saidv frame having sockets to 'receive the arms whereby the guard is held with relation to the -n`ut socket.
2. In a bolt Wrench, a frame, a slotted eX- tension on the frame, a-lever having a pivot in the slot, means for adjusting the pivot in the slot, a shank extending -from the frame, I of arms, the said frameha'ving sockets to `re' 1o and rotatable therein, said shank passing ceive the arms whereby the guard is supthrough the lever, a spring Ainterposed beported W1th relation to the nut socket.
tween the lever and the frame and surround- In testimony whereof, I affix my signature ing said shank, a spur on the lever, a shank in the presence of two`witnesses.
rotatable in the frame and taking motion BERNHARD LANGLOTZ. from the first mentioned shank, a nut socket `Witnesses:
on the second mentioned shank, a guard J. E. SEBRING,
comprising an apertured diskhaving a series H. S. MACKELLAR.
