Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. SPIVEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Roller-Pole Toy; and I-do declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the invention, attention being called to the drawing which accompanies this application and forms a part thereof.
This invention relatesto a device designated by me as a roller-pole toy which permits use of a vehicular character when manipulated in a certain manner.
In the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claims at the end thereof is found a full description of my invention, itsparts and construction, which latter, together with its manner of use, is also illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 illustrates in perspective view manipulation of the device before use. F ig. 2, in a similarvieW shows manner of its use. The'devicc consists of a stout pole 4. of suitable length which is provided at one end with a roller A suitable handle is provided at theother end. This handle may be in form of a bar (3, arranged transversely with reference to the pole and preferably parallel to the axis of roller 5.
A seat in suitable form is attached to .the pole between roller and l'iandle-bar, which may be in form of an appropriately shaped bar 7. The relation between this seat and the roller is such, with reference to the pole and during use of the device, that it the seat is considered to be on the upper side of the pole, the traveling contact of the roller is below the pole.
The device is to be used by a person fitted out with skates preferably of the rollentype or with analogous traction means. The
manner of use is clearly shown in the drawing, and is as follows: The user having hold of the device at bar (3 and positioned astride with reference to the pole and above seat 7 thereon moves along on the skates, draggix'ig the device after-him as shown in .l ig. 1. In

In this position the device forms a rolling support for the user which the latter may readily occupy and control without difficulty. As will be seen, brace 8 held up by the legs of the user supports the pole 'and counteracts the weight resting upon the seat. A vehicle on the order of a tricycle, affording ready locomotion, is formed for the time being by roller 5 in connection with the skatecarrying feet of the user. Speed may be controlled by proper manipulation of the pole and by shifting of the body on the seat, whereby roller 5 is caused to act as a. brake by the changing etlect ofthe Weight bearing upon 1t.
Having described my invention, I claim as new:
1. A device for use as described consisting of a pole, a roller atone end of the same, a handle at the other end, a seat between the two and a transversely arranged brace so cured to the pole between the seat and the handle.
2. A device for use as described consisting of a pole, a roller at one end of the same, a. handle-bar at the other end arranged parallel to the axis of the roller, a; seat. attached to the'polc between the ends thereof and a brace on the pole between seat and handlebar.
3. A device for use as described consisting of a pole, a roller mounted at one end of the same, a handle-bar mounted transversely to the pole at its other end, a seat-bar and a l'n'ace-bar both attached to the pole between its ends and all these ,bars and the axis of the roller being parallel to cachothcr.
