Description

@met @time D. H. FANNING, 0F WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
' Letters Patent N 100,278, dated March 1, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN' CORSETS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making past of the same To all whom it ana-y concern.-
Be it known that I, D. H. FANNING, of the city and county of \Vorcester, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful 'Iniprovements in Corsets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
The drawing represents afront View of my improved corset.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination, with separate vertical'bone and steel pockctpieces, united at top and bottom by band-pieces, of central zone-shaped uniting and supporting-pieces, as shown in the accompanying drawing and hereafter described.
In the drawings- A is the upper, and Bv the lower band, the said bands being connected by means of the separate longitudinal pocket and'connecting-pieces C.
The separate longitudinal or vertical pocket-pieces C, D, and E, are secured to central zone-shaped uniting and supporting-pieces F F, the wille ends of the pieces F F being'secured or stitched to the front pocket or cormecting-pieccs E E, so thatl the parts A, B C, D, E and F will occupy the relative positions as indicated in the drawing.
4Thecorset in this instance is open both in front and back, eyelets-holes a being formed in the back, connecting-pieces E for the reception of the lacing- Each connecting-piece C maybe provided with a' longitudinal pocket, c, for receiving a whalebone or steel stitfener, if desired.
The back connecting-pieces E E are each provided with two longitudinal pockets, c, to receive a stiiicncr on each side of the eyelet-holes, as indicated in the drawings.
By reference to the `drawing it will be seen that thczone-shaped pieces F F support tbe pocket and connecting-pieces C C in such a manner as to sustain them in their proper relative positions, to fit the waist of the wearer in an easy and graceful manner, `thus obvia-ting a serious objection to a skeleton corset in which vertical pieces are united by a narrow cent-ral band, the edges of which are parallel to each other I do n ot wish to be understood as claiming anything shown and described in the patent granted C. D. Rutherford, December 11, 1806, and I hereby disclaim the invention shown and described in said patent.
H ayinf described my improved corset,
'hat claim therein as new, and of my invention, and desire-to secure by Letters Patent, as an improved article ot' manufacture, is-
A corset, made or composed of separate vertical bone and steel pocket-supporting pieces C, D, E, in combination with zone-shapcd central supporting and connecting-pieces F F, as shown in the drawing and as above described.
W'itnesses: D. H. FANNING.
ALBERT EPEIROE, Trios. H. DODGE.
