SHOW-CASE.
7 Application-ala october 24, lolo,
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that l, @Hannes Serninrnn, citizen of the `Unit-ed States, residing the county of Crawford and State of hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in devices for containing fruits, candies, or other coininodr. ties for sale, and the invention .has for its` primary object an improved construction of show case which. will more than'fcomply with inunicipalor other regulations or sanitary laws requiring goods to be exhibited .in dust proof cases.
The invention also has for its object a ional. sanitary show case which will be active in appearance and expose to View evoods to be sold inan attractive Inanncr, but Without the possibility of dust gaining'access to the interior.` of the case.
AThe invention also has for 'its object a sectional sanitary'showf cas off this character which will embody ,peculiar advantageous features relating the different parts in assembled position to each other, particularly ,the manner of detachablyl holding the glass panels which forni parts of the ends/and top of the case and through which. the `contents of the case may be' viewed. And the invention has for a further object to generally im rove this class of devicesY and to render t em more useful and commercially desirable.
With these and other objects in view as will more fully appear. as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter :fully describe and claiin.-
For afull understanding of the inven- .on, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which: f
Figure 1 is. a perspective view of a show caseA constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view; Figs e and 5 are fragmentary perspective views looking into opposite cor ners of the case; and, Fig. 6 is tary view of one end of the case.

ferred to in 'the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
My improved showcase is preferably constructed of sheet metal and embodies a bottoni 1, sides which are preferably permanently attached to the bottom, a relaitively stationary vertically disposed end frame 3, and a movable or swinging end frame Il, the latter being hingedlyiconnected at one end to the downwardly extending edge of a cross bar 5 and riveted or other! wise secured to the sides 2 at the upper edges of the latter.
The end frame 3 is provided onv its inner face with vertical flange guide strips 6 andi 70 a bottom horizontally extending guide strip- 7, these strips being designed to receive a, glass panel 8 slipped downwardly behind them, so as to constitute a transparent and dust proof panel through which the goods may be viewed at this end of the case.
The sides 2.of the case are formed on their inner faces with longitudinally eX- tending guide channels 9, said channels being preferably formed by crimping the upper edge of the sides inwardly, and thence turning the marginal edges upwardly to form the upwardly facing channels. 10 designates a top frame. This frame 'is formed at its sides with depending lianges lladapted to fit into the channels or grooves 9 so as to produce a dust proof joint between the top and sides, and the end bar 12 of the top frame is provided with an upwardly' projecting and forwardly facing 90 iiange 13 formed by bending the metal of which the end bar is composed.' The end bar 12 preferably projects somewhat beyond `the adjoining ends of the side lbars of the frame 10. This frame is also provided at the end opposite the bar`12 with a downwardly extending butt-liange 14.
In applying the top to the sides, the flanges 11 are tted down into the channels 9 and the top frame is given a longitudinal., 100 movement in one direction, whereby the end bar 12 will tit underneath the rear edge of the cross bar 5, while the flange 13 will embrace said rear edge and effectually form a dust proof joint at this point, while the butt-flange 14 willl bring up against the outer face of the vertical end frame 3 to form a tight joint, and manifestly, a corresponding joint will be formed by theinterengaging side flanges 11 and the walls L of the channels 9. '1t is also to be noted that the end bar'of the frame 10 which is provided with the butt-flange 14, constitutes astop for the glass panel 10, the latter being prevented from removal so long as thetop frame is in place. The top frame is provided lwith longitudinally extending ope positely facing guides 15 for a glass panel,
'these guides being preferably Aformed by crimping the inner edges of the iside bars of the frame 10 and then foldingftlie edges uponthemselves -in opposite directions, as
clearly illustrated in the drawing.
The sides 2 of the case are preferably in clined at the end where the swinging frame 4 is located and are here provided with ontwardly and upwardly facing preferably integral side iianges 16 and a bottom abutment frange/17. The end frame 4 itself .is formed with glass holding strips 18, the strip at the -relatively free edge of the frame, designated 19, being removable and being secured in place by the same 1i`ut20 which secures in place the bolt of the hand knob 21. By this means the glass panel 22 of the frame 4 may be easily applied and removed when necessary. The frame 4 is formed on its side edges with flanges 23 adapted to fit into the side iianges 16 so as to form a dust excluding, joint between the frame 4 and the sides 2` when' the former is in .closedv position. The
abut-mentV flange 17 is recessed or cut out, as indicated at 24, sol as to accommodate the nut 20 in the closed position ofthe frame 4.
From the foregoing description in connectionrwith the accompan'ygng drawings, the practical use 'and operation of my improved sectional sanitary show case will be apparent. The panels maybe easily. removedl and replaced as required, the top may be easily removed and replaced, and when the parts are assembled as hereinbefore described and illustrated in the drawings, it is evident that a dust proof show case will be produced, which is the main object of this invention.
wardly facing glass folding guides, and' means for holding said frame with its flanges in thechannels.
n 2. A show case embodyingaiswinging end frame hingedly connected thereto at one edge, said frame being provided on one face with relatively stationary glass retaining strips and atits free edge with a removable glass retaining strip, a handle knob, a bolt connectedto said knob and extending throughv the free end vof the frame and said removable strip, and alnut screwing on said vbolt 4and serving to hold both fthe. handle knob and removable strip in pla-ice.
3. VA show case embodying a swinging end frame hingedly connected theretol atfone edge said frame being provided on one/face with relatively `stationary glass retaining strips and at its free edge with a removableglass retaining strip, a handle knob, a bolt connected to said knob and extending through 'the free end of the frame and said removable strip, a nut screwing on saidbolt and serving to hold both the handle knob and removable strip in place, the Swingin g frame being also' provided with side flanges, and the case being formed with oppositely facing, ianges and with an abutment flange against which latter the free end of the frame is adapted to lie, said abutment fia-nge being formed with a recess to accommodate the nut.
' ln testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature' in presence of two witnesses.
