COMBINED SHIPPING, DISPLAY, AND ADVERTISING CASE WITNESSES A TTORNE YS Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
STS
JOHN S. SCOTT, OF GALLINA, NEW MEXICO.
COMBINED SHIPPING, DISPLAY AND ADVERTISING CASE.
Application filed March 26, 1924. Serial No. 702,085.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN S. Soon, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gallina, in the county of Rio Arriba and State of New Mexico, have invented a new and Improved Combined Shipping, Display and Advertising Case, of which the following is a full, clear and exact description.
This invention relates to an improved combined shipping, display and advertising case, an object of the invention being to provide a box or case in which the contents can be readily observed through a transparent front plate, and which is provided with a front covering board which can be effectually secured over the transparent plate when the case is to be shipped and which can be conveniently supported at the top of the case and display advertising matter when the goods reach their destination.
A further object is to provide a case of the character described which is designed to clearly display the goods and which is so constructed as to permit shipment and fully protect the transparent plate at the front during such shipment.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure .l. is a perspective View of my improved casc showing the same ready for shipment Figure 2 is a similar view showing the case with its parts in position for display;
Figure 3 is a view in vertical section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view in horizontal section on the line 44 of Figure 1.
My improved case comprises a bottom 1, sides 2, a rear end 3, and vertical posts 4 which are rigidly secured to the sides 2 at their forward edges and complete the side walls of the box. A fixed covering strip 5 is secured on top of the posts 4 and on the forward edges of the sides 2, and to this strip 5 a cover 6 is hingedly connected as shown at 7 so that the contents of the box or case are readily accessible when the cover is opened. The bottom 1 of the case extends forwardly slightly beyond the front of the case as shown at 8 and is provided with a groove 97in its upper face extending throughout its length. The posts 4 have longitudinal grooves 10 therein, and a transparent plate 11 is supported in these grooves so that while the contents of the box or case are entirely enclosed they can be seen through the transparent plate 11. 12 represents a front covering board which is of a size to entirely cover the plate 11 and rest against the front faces of the posts 4. This board 12 is made with a flange or tongue 13 at its lower edge which fits in the groove 9, and angle brackets 14 are secured to the upper portion of the board 12 and overlie the strip 5 and are removably secured to the latter by screws 15. The inner face of this board 12 is provided with cleats 16 to support a sheet or card 17 containing advertising matter and the like. To protect the transparent plate 11 during shipment of the case. I provide a removable or movable partition 18 which fits inside the box or case and which may be positioned against the inner faces of the posts 4 and protect the glass from the contents of the box or case. When the goods are to be displayed, this partition can be removed after the goods are first removed and then placed at the rear of the case as indicated by dot and dash lines in Figure 4.
The drawings clearly illustrate the position of the parts for shipment and for dis play, By reference particularly to Figures 1, 3 and 4, it will be seen how the covering board 12 is secured in closed position with the partition 18 located back of the transparent plate 11, so that the plate is fully protected during shipment. Figure 2 illustrates the position of the parts when the case is on display, and it will be noted that in order to position the board 12 as shown in Figure 1 the same screws 15 can be employed to secure the same.
To secure the cover 6 in closed position I preferably employ a screw 6' or other secfi'ing device which can be readily remova e.
Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a box, a hinged top on the box, a pair of vertical posts at the front corners of the box, a transparent plate supported in grooves of the post, a shield adapted to be positioned in the box against the posts, a removable front member secured to the top of the box and having coupling engagement With the bottom of the box, cleats on the front member adapted to support advertising matter and the like and said 'l'rout member adapted to be secured in upright position on the top of the box to display the advertising matter.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a box, posts at the front edges of the box, a transparent plate mounted in the posts, a covering and protecting board for the plate, having interlocking engagement With the bottom and top of the box, said board adapted to be supported on top of the box and display advertising matter thereon.
