MATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 1, 1911. Serial No. 630,593.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER J. KREIDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hecktown, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Matches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in matches, the object of the invention being to provide a match comprising a single stem having heads at both ends, and an intermediate section of non-combustible ma-' terial with the stem weakened at the ends of said non-combustible sect-ion.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangcments of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawingds a view in elevation illustrating my improvement.
1, represents a match stem or stick, which is provided on both ends with combustible heads 2. The intermediate portion 3 of the stick is rendered non-combustible in any suitable manner, and at the ends of the non-combustible portion, the stem or stick is weakened by means of annular grooves 4. The purpose of this construction is to permit one end of the match to be used, and then broken off, leaving the other end for future use. The non-combustible section prevents the match from burning beyond a certain point, and also prevents any burning of the fingers.
The invention is not limited to any particular method of rendering the intermediate portion of the match non-combustible. I may employ saline substances for the purpose, as for example, borax', alum, phosphate of soda, or ammonia.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A match comprising a stick having heads at both ends and having an intermediate non-combustible section, and said stick weakened at both ends of the non-combustible section, substantially as described.
