ANDERSON G. S. ROBINSON, 0F SUFFOLK, VIRGINIA.
DISPLAY-RACK.
ooaosa.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDERSON C. S. Ron- INSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Suffolk, in the county of Nansemond and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in display racks and more particularly to a device whereby a placard or sign may be held in position to be read.
The object of my invention is to provide a device to which the ends of a sign or placard may be readily attached.
A further object is to provide means for automatically holding the parts of the device in closed position.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be hereinafter more clearly set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claims. 7
In the drawings I have shown the preferred forms which my invention may take.
In said drawings, Figure 1 is a perspec tive view of my complete device. Fig. 2
is a top plan view thereof. Fi 3 is a detail sectional view of one end 0 the device. Fig. 4c is a detail sectional view through one end of a modified form of device.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 is a standard to which the strips 2 are secured. The strips 2 are preferably arranged parallel to each other and at right angles to the standard 1.
Cooperating with the strips 2 are strips 3, the ends of which are connected to the strips 2 by spring members 4 so that the strips 2 and 3 may be separated, but when released, will return to normal position. One of the strips'2 or 3 is provided with a plurality of projections or pins 5, which when the members are in normal position, extend against the opposite member.
In the drawing I have shown the pins 5 secured to the outer strip 3, but I desire it Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 17, 1911.
Patented Aug. 29, 1911.
Serial No. 603,147.
to be understood that I reserve the right to secure the pins to the strip 2 as well as the strip 8, or I may secure a plurality of pins to each strip.
When it is desired to secure a card or sheet of paper so that the matter contained thereon may be easily read, the strip 3 is grasped and pulled away from the strip 2. The end of the card or paper is then placed between the strips 2 and 3 and the strip 3 released, whereupon the springs 4 will return the strip 3 to its initial position and the end of the card or paper will be held by the pins 5.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a further development of my invention, in which I provide bars 6 between the ends of the strips 2 and 3, said bars being hinged together while their free ends are hinged to the outer edges of the ends of the strips 2 and 3, so that when it is desired to separate said strips, the bars 6 are straightened out, and bear against the ends of the strips 2 and 8, and are thus prevented from moving inwardly beyond a position of alinement with each other. By this construction the members 2 and 3 may be maintained separated at a limited distance apart as long as desired. When the paper has been properly positioned and it is desired to hold the same be tween the members 2 and 8, the hinge bars are moved out of alinement, whereupon the spring 4: will draw the strips 2 and 3 together.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a standard, a strip secured at right angles thereto, a second strip parallel with the first and in front thereof, coiled springs connecting the ends of the opposite strips together and bars hinged together and having their free ends hinged to the outer edges of the ends of the two strips.
2. A device of the character described comprising a standard, a pair of strips secured at right angles thereto one near each end thereof, a second strip parallel with each first named strip and in front of it, springs connecting the end of each first named strip with the ends of the corresponding front strip, and pairs of bars conneoting each end of each first named strip name to this specification in the presence of with the corresponding ends of the front two subscribing Witnesses.
strips the bars of each pair bein hin 'ed T togetlier and the outer end of each bar be- ANDERSON O N ing hinged to the outer edge of the end of Witnesses; one of the strlps. J OHN MARSHALL, J r.,
In testimony whereof I have signed my A. J. BROWN.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents. Washington, D. 0.
