UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.- HERMAN ,TAcoBs, or BALTIMORE, MARY-LAND, AssIenon TO THE sivrnnrcsn SEAM- LESS TnoUsnRsooMrAnY, Inconrom rnn, or MARYLAND.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN JAcoBs, citizen ofthe United States, residing at Baltlmore, Maryland, have invented certain new stretching,
simple and easy way,
and useful Improvements in Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates totrousers of. that class in which each leg is composed substantially of 'a single piece of. cloth, with the leg seam on the inside only.
, My object is to simplify the making of the garment, and to improve the fitting, in a consistent withthe single interior seam, and the invention consis'ts in the special shape of the part of which the leg and one-half the body is composed.
Figure 1 of the illustrating drawings shows this form of the leg and-half body part,'and Fig. 2 shows a side elevation of thecompleted trousers.
The main'features of the objects sought by me are the same as those heretofore sought, viz. to reduce the extent of seam, and in case of cloth with stripes lengthwise of the leg, to avoid thereby the diagonal cut of the stripes. I have specially sought to improve the by means of .the' special forms which I have devised.
Referring to Fig. 1, the parts A and B bounded by the outline of the whole figure, and separated by the dotted line, represent .the forms of the two patternsshaped-in accordance with the usual measurements of the body of the wearer. The margins at, b, and 0, d, are margins of the pattern only. The cloth cut thereby is all in one piece, and is, in shape, represented by the sa1d marginal lines.v The dotted straight line, extending from the hip gore m to the bottom of the leg, at the point indicated, defines approximately the position of the side seam in trousers of the ordinary cut. The part A, of the piece of cloth- A, B., forms the front of the Specification of Letters Patent.

the rear. The inner and only will be on the line of juncture of the edgesve, f, and g, h. The points h, 7, when brought together, form the point of upper limit of the leg seam. The points it and f are so shaped and located that this point is carried back fromthe front, so' that this seam is not exposed. a I
It will be.observed, from'the above description, that the general shape of the garment is obtained by the cut on the line f, e. The proper-shape for the upper part, and the curve for the hip, is obtained by the gore m, which is made on the line of the pocket. At the bottom, to obtain the proper spring 7 and fit at the foot, I cut the part A,-B, on an inclined line from the corner' 6 to a point midwayof the part A, and then carry the cut down to the point angle in the bottom edge, at the front.
leg, and B Further, Ienlarge the cloth at the bottom ofthe leg by an outward curve at e, and this, in connection with the angle aforesaid, gives a perfect fit.
A small seam H is made from the gore m to the bottom ofthe pocket; also a small incision 2 is made over the hip pocket to insure fit at that point;
I claim: 1 v I As a new article of'manu'facture, trousers each leg of which is formed of a'single piece with an inside seam only, said leg being formed of the part A, 13, having the gore on the line of the pocket, the points It and f, an angle in the bottom. formed by the inclined lines from the points 6 and g, the edge f-e having an outward flare at the bottom, all as set forth.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERMAN JACOBS.
