To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANoIs G. HYKE, Sr., a citizen of the United States, residing at 4:140 Shenandoah avenue, in the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hangers for Gutters and the Like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hangers for gutters and the like, and it has for its object to provide a supporting hanger which is adjustable effectively to constitute rigid braces or supports for the sides of the gutters and which is provided with a supporting part.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a gutter having a hanger of my improved construction in connection therewith, a portion of the hanger support being broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the gutter and hanger, clearly showing the connection of the hanger with the gutter, and a so the means of engagement whereby .the different parts of the hanger are held in rigid adjustment. Fig. 3 is a view of the under side of the hanger detached from the gutter. Fig. 4; is a perspective view of a portion of the gutter showing the entire hanger thereon. Fig. 5 shows the hanger applied to a cornice.

The gutter A in combination with which I have shown my improved hanger is of a well known commercial type. The hanger in connection therewith includes two overlapping parts indicated by 1 and 2, respectively, said parts being of duplicate construct-ion and, therefore, interchangeable one with the other so that no attention or care is necessary to select the proper part when adjusting said two parts together. Each of the parts 1 and 2 is provided with an obliquely upturned lip or extension 3 at its outer end, said lips or extensions being adapted to extend .through cuts or openings 41 in the sides of the gutter. Through each of the parts 1 and 2 at intervals, say about one-half inch apart, are formed holes 5 which are preferably stamped or punched therethrough so as to form lips or burs 6. Said lips or burs 6 are on the under sides of the two members 1 and 2 adjacent to the holes 5 therein, and constitute engaging means whereby, when said members are clamped together in assembled relation, they will be held firmly in such relation. gutter the lips or extensions 3 are passed through the proper holes 4t in the manner shown in Fig. 2, after which said parts 1 and 2 are brought together one upon the other in the manner shown. Gutters are made in regular graduated sizes and the holes 5 are spaced to conform to the different sizes, so that when a hanger is applied to any gutter with the upturned portions 3 engaging against the outer sides of the gutter the holes 5 of the overlapping por- The supporting part of the hanger oomprises a strap 7 having a base portion 8 provided with a hole 9. A bolt 10 is passed through the hole 9 and through registering holes 5, and is provided with a nut 11 which operates to clamp the parts together as shown. The nut 11 binds against the lip or bur 6 and is thereby held and prevented from becoming loose, while the lips or burs on the upper one of the overlapping members prevent dislocation of said members. The bolt 10 is preferably of the screw type, having a groove 12 for the reception of a screw-driver, by which instrument the nut and bolt may be conveniently adjusted. I i

prefer also to provide a lip 13 on the under side of the base portion 8 in order to assist in holding the strap 7 properly adjusted. The strap 7 is of such length that it may be bent in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 5 for attachment to the roof structure.

A hanger thus constructed constitutes a convenient and durable brace and hanger for gutters, cornices and similar devices. Being adjustable to different lengths it may be applied conveniently to gutters and cornices of the various commercial dimensions.

I am aware that there may be modifications and alterations in the arrangement and construction of the parts without departure from the spirit and scope of the invention.

I do not restrict myself to details of construction except as recited in the appended claim.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A hanger comprising two duplicate and interchangeable parts having holes therein and arranged to overlap, lips or burs on the under side of each of said members, those on the upper member engaging with the lower member effectively to prevent said members from becoming turned laterally on said lower duplicate member efiectively to prevent said nut from becoming looseand to clamp said duplicate members and said supporting member firmly together, substantially as specified.
