FIRING. MECHANISM FOR GUNS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 18, 1911.
Patented Aug. 8, 1911. Serial No. 603,259.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ETHAN ALcnR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lorain, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Firing Mechanism for Guns, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to firing mechanism for guns, and it has for its object to provide means for firing a gun which may be readily actuated with heavy gloves or warm mittens. In hunting in winter it is very difficult to pull the trigger when gloves or mittens are worn, and without gloves or mittens the fingers become too numb to permit of the firing of the gun. My invention overcomes this difiiculty, and permits the hunter to fire the gun by pressing a pin which is connected with the trigger.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of my invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in both the views, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lock of a gun supplied with my improvement; and Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of Fig. 1.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that a gun lock 5 of the ordinary type is used with a hammer 6, a trigger 7 and a trigger guard 8, there being guideways 9 in which a pin 10 is disposed, the pin 10 having a head 11 by which it may be readily thrust downwardly. A spring 12 is wound around the pin 10 between the gun lock 5 and the pin head 11. The lower terminal of the pin 10 has an obliquely disposed edge 18, this lower terminal of the pin being disposed in a slot 14 in a shank 15, the shank 15 being articulated to the trigger 7 at one end, and being disposed in aguideway 16 at the other end. The trigger guard 8 is cut away at 17 to permit the shank 15 to pass therethrough.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that an end wall 18 of the slot 14 is inclined and that the obliquely disposed edge 13 of the lower terminal of the pin 10 is disposed in engagement with this inclined end 18. It will be observed that the trigger 7 is not interfered with in any way to prevent its being used for firing the gun in the ordinary manner. However, when the weather is cold, and the hunter is wearing mittens or heavy gloves to keep his hands warm it is diflicult if not impossible for him to insert his fingers within the trigger guard 8 so as to reach the trigger 7. When such is the case the gun may readily be fired by pressing downwardly the pin 10, which will cause its obliquely disposed edge 13 to push against the inclined end 18 of the slot 1 1 of the shank 15, thereby pushing the shank 15 rearwardly and drawing with it the trigger 7. 7
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
.1. In combination with a gun lock having a trigger, a shank articulated to the rear of the trigger, and a pin for engaging a member of the shank for actuating the trigger.
2. In combination with a gun lock having a trigger, a shank articulated to the trigger and having a slot with an inclined end wall,
end wall for operating the trigger.
8. In combination with a gun lock having a trigger, and two guideways, a shank art-iculat-ed to the trigger and disposed for moving in one of the guideways, and a pin disposed for moving in the other guideway adapted for engaging the shank for moving it relatively to the gun lock.
4. In combination with a gun lock having a trigger, and two guideways, a shank having a slot articulated to the trigger and disposed for moving in one of the guideways, and a pin disposed for moving in the other guideway and projecting in the slot forkmoving the shank relatively to the gun 5. In combination with a gun lock having a trigger, and two guideways, a shank having a slot articulated to the trigger and dis- 1 posed for moving in one of the guideways,
and a pin for moving in the slot against the a pin disposed for moving in the other name to this specification in the presence of guideway and projecting in the slot for movtwo subscribing Witnesses. ing the shank relatively to the gun lock,
and a spring for holding the pin yieldingly ETHAN ALGER in a predetermined position relatively to the Witnesses: gun lock. HUGH J. REILLY,
In testimony whereof I have signed my F. J. KING.
