STRAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led Auguste, 1910. Serial No. 575,960.
To all whom it 'may concern: Y
Be it known that I, JOHN ALLEN CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing a't Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have'invented a new and useful Strainer' for Straining Fruit-Juices and other Liquids.
The present invention relates to improvements in strainers for domestic or household purposes, and is especially adapted for use in straining the syrup from fruits, etc. In devices of this character cleanliness and durability are essential characteristics, and the object of my invention is to combine these features in a contrivance which is also simple in construction and comparatively cheap in first cost.
The invention consists essentially in a supporting or suspending device combined with and adapted for use with one or more straining receptacles, and it further eonsistsin certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed a'ccording to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principle thereof.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the suspending ring and its accessories. Fig. 2 is a partial sectional view of Fig. 1 illustrating two straining receptacles suspended from the ring. Fig. 3 is a detail view of a snap or clamp ring by which the straining receptacle is suspended, and F ig. 4 illustrates the de-V vice in use.
The device comprises a suspending ring 1 which is preferably of metal and formed U- shape in cross section, thus providing an annular groove and an outer and inner flange thereabout. At diametrically opposite points the ring 1 is provided with integral attened projections which are riveted, respectively, to the handle 1 and supporting arm l". The handle and arm are also of metal, being preferably stam ed from sheets, as is also the ring l. The andle in addition to its inherent function, also, in coinbination with the arm forms two supporting points for the suspending ring when it is in use with the straining receptacles. The straining receptacles are attached to and are suspended from the ring 1 by means of the snap rings 2 and 3, and these receptacles 2 and 3a are preferably composed of textile fabric.
The snap rings 2 and 3 are similar in construction, but of different sizes or diameters, and each is provided with a sleeve 2b secured on and projecting from one end of the snap ring. l The projecting portion of the sleeve forms a socket for the complementary end of the ring. The respective receptacles or bags are stitched, at their top edges, over the snap rings, and when the rings are placed in the groove of the suspending ring 1 the bags 2a and 3a are suspended within the ring 1. I have illustrated two bags of textile material, one, the inner, being of coarse mesh and the other being of comparatively finer mesh, and I find that the use of these two ba'gs of differing texture facilitate the straining of fruits.
It Will of course be understood that I may employ only one of the straining bags, or if necessary additional bags may be utilized if desired, the groove inthe ring 1 being of a size to accommodate several snap rings.
The elasticity of the snap rings enables the same to be placed in position in the grooved ring 1 or removed therefrom with facility, and when in use the socket 2b holds the adjoining end of the ring against displacement.
From the above description taken in connection with the drawings, it is evident that I ,have provided a device which fulfils the conditions and purposes set forth as the object of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with an open ring having outer and inner flanges forming an an- Patented Aug. 8, 1911.
