Abstract

In applying an optical fiber (1) to a substrate (3) coated with an adhesive a supply of the optical fiber is located wound around a reel (13). The optical fiber is feed in a loose loop (17) providing a fiber magazine from the reel (13) to a collet (9) or nozzle, from which the optical fiber is passed to a hold-down means (11) having a non-rotating bottom surface. The hold-down means (11) presses the fiber against the surface of the substrate (3). The reel (13), collet (9) and the holding-down means (11) are moved so that the contact point at the substrate surface is moved along a desired path, where the optical fiber (1) is to be placed. This allows that the fiber is applied with small radii of curvature and with a minimum of mechanical stress. A fiber cutter (23) is provided upstream the collet (9) and it can cut the fiber at the places where it is to end so that no loose fiber end portions are produced. A fiber feeder (21) is provided behind the cutter (23) to feed more fiber after it has been cut.

Description of the invention (1) Technical field I. I 11— I ii—-I J-5 (Please read the precautions on the back before filling out this page) The present invention relates to the use of optical fibers and substrate materials The combined method and device are particularly used for manufacturing flexible waveguides of optical waveguides, that is, flexible foils having optical waveguides arranged in them or I, and using optical fibers as their waveguides. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION ‘Future requirements in communication systems include increased component density and higher bandwidth. Due to space constraints and the high impedance characteristics of slender wires' increasing component density on printed circuit boards (PCBs) will make it difficult to provide a sufficient number of electrical backplanes (BPs) to be interconnected. Due to the large bandwidth and low signal loss of optical fibers, the use of optical interconnections between boards or between them can reduce these difficulties. Placing a very large number of loose fibers on a printed circuit board or backplane will be difficult to handle in practical applications. In order to successfully use close-range optical interconnects, fiber processing is a key factor that must be addressed. The short-range optical interconnecting medium used herein includes an optical fiber mounted on a flexible foil base material, that is, an optical fiber flexible foil. Previous technology The technology of optical flexible foils printed by the Bayer Consumer Cooperative of the Central Bureau of Standards of the Ministry of Economy has been developed by AT & T, and can refer to US Patent No. 5,259,05. This patent describes how the optical fiber is sent by a rotating wheel to a surface covered with adhesive. The runner system is mounted on an operating machine, that is, a robot arm. The fiber is wound around a part of the runner. As the manipulator moves down onto a flat surface covered with adhesive, the fibers stick to that surface. By moving the wheel on the surface, the fiber can be placed along any set path. The special _______-4 -_____ This paper size applies to the Chinese National Standard (CNS) A4 specification (210 ^ 297 Gongchu) ~~ 416013 A7 ___________B7 V. Description of the invention (2) Lee also describes how to compress the domain in two plastic boxes Between the sheets, and the adhesive-coated surface is the inner surface of one of the foils. • Another AT & T Moss patent, U.S. Patent No. 5,204,9, which focuses on the fact that the optical fiber contains a connecting tongue, that is, a light, optical connector with a tongue . In this example, the tongue is extended from the flexible foil and beyond the end edge of the flexible foil. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is to provide a method and a device for manufacturing flexible foils using optical fibers, so that individual segments of optical fibers can be applied to a base foil or sheet. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method and a device for manufacturing a flexible foil using optical fibers, so that a single fiber can only be applied roughly at the position where it is needed without any fiber return. The loop environment is outside the base of the flexible foil. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method and a device for manufacturing a flexible foil using an optical fiber, so that the applied fiber has a small curvature in its bending, and the fiber has a minimum mechanical stress. . Printed by the Consumer Cooperatives of the Central Bureau of Standards of the Ministry of Economic Affairs-. N--f:-I.. N--(It I--I (Please read the precautions on the back before filling in this tile) Another purpose of this invention is Provided is a method and a device for manufacturing a flexible foil using optical fibers, which can cause the fibers to cross and have a small angle between the intersecting fibers. Therefore, the problem to be solved by the present invention is how to— The optical fiber is applied to a flexible substrate of the substrate and is only located where it needs to transmit light, and the fiber is supplied in a precise manner and well controlled, and its curvature is made as much as possible during the application of the fiber Reduction and minimum mechanical -5- The paper scale is applicable to the Chinese National Standard (CNS) A4 specification (210X29? In a fiber and a base material When combined, the base material is one of two foils such as a flexible foil structure, and the flexible foil structure has light, and the optical waveguide is located at two sides of each other, and the flexible plastic foil is laminated. While This base material is assumed to be covered with a suitable adhesive. An optical fiber supply source is fixedly wound on a reel 'and the optical fiber is formed from the reel to the collet or nozzle to form a loose fiber with a fiber bin. The way of looping is advanced, and the collet or nozzle gives a defined direction to the fiber in front of or upstream of the exit of the clip. From the collet, the optical fiber is passed to the -press down device, The pressing device has a fixed bottom surface located at a distance from the exit of the clip. The pressing device presses the fiber against the surface of the base material, and the collet and its outlet are distanced from the base material. A small distance from the surface. The reel, collet and pressing device are movable. The contact point on the surface of the substrate can be moved along a predetermined path, and the path is where the optical fiber will be placed. A fiber cut The device is located upstream of the collet, and the fiber can be cut at the end of the fiber so that no loose end portion of the fiber is generated. A fiber feeder is located behind the cutter and is used to After the weaving is cut, Feed more fibers. The important features of the printing field of the Consumer Cooperatives of the Central Standards Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs include: First, in the configuration of the optical fiber, its direction is precisely controlled by the device-that is, the output of the collet. And, in the operation of pressing the fibers onto the base material, it is achieved by a separate device, that is, a down-loading device, or the optical fiber fed by the supply source is based on its upper side. It is in contact with the bottom surface of the pressing device at any time, and at the same time, the fiber "the bottom side portion relative to the upper side portion is in contact with the paper surface through the bottom surface. It depends on the size of the paper. Lai Lai materials (416013 A7 _____ _B7_ five, Description of the invention (4) to the surface of the base material, a second feature includes a cutting operation that can be completed on any position of the base material, and so that the fiber segment can start or end at any desired position . Third, the part of the fiber optic box between the supply source and the contact point forms a loosely suspended or overhanging part with a meandering, so that the fiber that can quickly enter the contact point can withstand the fiber placement operation. Minimal mechanical stress, especially at the bends where fibers are placed and where they begin and end. · Printed by the Central Standards Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Shellfish Consumer Cooperatives ----------- install 1 ----..---- order (please read the precautions on the back before filling this page) The difference from the previously cited AT & T patent, which does not include any fiber cutting device among other items. Alternatively, AT & T's patent describes how the fiber is sent in a continuous loop with a portion of it placed outside the flexible foil that is actually used, so that the fiber length used in that portion is It is roughly equivalent to its actual user. The patent states that this is an advantage, because it can determine the quality of all sent fibers by measuring the luminous source through the fiber before cutting the flexible foil and fiber to define the flexible foil that can be used sheet. However, its stated advantages are only sufficient if the fiber is likely to be damaged during the sending and / or stacking operation. The lamination method used is detailed in the case where the invention name of the Republic of China patent application is "Lamination of Flexible Optical Fiber Flexible Foil" together with the sending method described in this case, in which the risk of damage has been Almost eliminated. The remaining risks of damage or dysfunction still exist in the actual manufacture of connecting the optical fiber to the external device. However, these undesirable functions can only be detected by measuring the loss of each individual fiber segment in the completed flexible foil structure. The fiber sending method and device described herein can make the size of the fiber-shaped paper that is sent applicable to the Chinese National Standard (CNS) M specification (210x297 mm) A7 416013 V. Description of the invention (5) — ^ ~ I— n Order {Please read the notes on the back before filling this page) to become a parent fork, even if the angle between the two fibers is very small. If the fiber shipping device is equipped with a -wheel, as suggested by the first patent suggested by the company at & m, then the low-angle fiber crossover will be finely achieved. The fiber loading wheel may be blocked by adjacent fibers. ‘If the runner moves in the z direction from the surface of the base material, the fiber may lose track due to the small and shallow keyways on the runner. Furthermore, in order to have a smaller radius of curvature when sending fibers, the radius of the runner must be small. Depending on the depth of the groove on the runner, the radius of this runner may need to be less than the minimum sending half fe. If the minimum radius used is close to the mechanical safety bending limit of about 5 mm of traditional glass fiber, and this applies only to the short period of time-if it is a longer period, only the larger mouth * curvature radius OK, the bending radius of the runner may cause damage to the fiber during the transmission process. The method and device described here, the limitation and actual attachment of the placement are through the collet and the probe or the The pressure device is divided into two parts, instead of adopting a single-component and having the two functions at the same time or the whole, that is, a wheel with a groove. This approach avoids all of the problems associated with the use of grooved wheels described above. The method of using the pre-cut fiber as described above for the printing of employee cooperatives by the Central Bureau of Standards of the Ministry of Economic Affairs allows flexible foils with internal tongues to be used without the need for continuous foil production as in the case of continuous delivery. It is necessary to leave several redundant fiber parts. The advantages of the inner tongue are explained in detail in the Taiwan patent “Flexible Foil with Connection Tabs” which is also applied at the same time. Since the semicircular path, the fiber is placed along a vertical path, then bends to an almost horizontal direction and penetrates there The fiber feeding device 21 is at the entrance and the mouth. The fiber feeding package 21 senses the end of the fiber penetrated by the beer and feeds a segment of the weaving dimension through the cutter 23 and the collet 9 to the skid head 11 The lowest point of the center of the bottom surface. When the fiber end is located on the bottom surface of the skid head 1 1, the operating machine moves the arm 7 ′ downward so that the skid head 1 1 moves toward the upper surface of the base material 3 covered with adhesive, and So that the lowest point of its bottom surface forms a parallel to the surface of the base material The bottom surface then presses the fibers against the surface of the base material, thus causing the fibers to adhere to the sticky surface of the base material 3. The thickness of the adhesive and / or the applied pressure is adjusted to make the inspection head The bottom surface of 1 1 will never touch the glue, but only touch the upper side of the fiber 1. The manipulator then moves the robot arm 7 in a direction parallel to the surface of the base material 3. When the robot arm 7 moves At this time, the optical fiber 1 is adhered to the base material along a selected path by the movement of the arm 7 relative to the base material 3. Then the robot arm 7 moves horizontally for a short additional distance so that the segment fibers between the cutting edge of the sample head 1 1 and the cutting tool 23 can be pulled out of the feeding collet 9 and Press on the surface of the rubber cover. Such a section of optical fiber is mounted on the coated surface along a predetermined path. Then, the robot arm moves upward along the Z direction of the upper surface of the base material 3. After the probe 11 loses contact with the upper edge of the fiber to be sent, the robot arm 7 can move freely to a new starting point to send another segment of fiber, that is, move along the X direction and the γ direction. Description of the invention (10) The tension on the fiber can be low enough not to damage the fiber, and the moment of inertia of the reel 13 will not affect the fiber on the bottom surface of the skid head 11 The skid head pressurizes the automatic feeding operation of the fiber when it comes into contact with the rubberized surface. Using such a device with the above-mentioned cut-and-pl ace function also needs to be capable of feeding the fiber during the fiber feeding process and A device for quickly stopping and starting the movement of the arm 7. A control and sensing device 2 5 is installed on one of the vertical sides of the casing 5 at the loose overhanging fiber loop 17 and is arranged to control The number of fibers contained in the loop. When a certain amount of fiber has been fed from the loop 17, the control and sensing device 25 activates the motor 'connected to the reel 丨 3 to be controlled by the reel 1 3 Feed in a predetermined length of fiber to make the original drape loop 17 loose The state is restored. This can be achieved by arranging two sensors 27'29, such as photodetectors, at two different height positions on the loose overhang loop 17. The upper sensor 2 7 is The signal on the loose overhang loop 17 is used when the fiber is fully used, while the sensor 2 9 on the lower side sends a signal when the reel 13 has fed enough fiber. A fiber may need to be crossed It is sent under the condition of a placed fiber, even if the angle between the two fibers is very small.
