Abstract

A method for heating information storage media so as to enhance dimensional stability is disclosed. The media is heated to a temperature that meets or exceed the upper limit of the normal operating temperature of the media. The heating step causes the media substrate to anisotropically deform to a structure relaxation state. The heating step occurs prior to embedding circular tracks onto the media, thereby enabling the tracks to remain circular even upon reaching elevated operating temperatures for long periods of time. A disk having such dimensional stability because of the heating step is also disclosed.
