Abstract

The present invention relates to a catalyst comprising rhodium and a compound of the formula (I) where R1, R2, R3 are identical or different and are, independently of one another, hydrogen, an alkyl or alkoxy group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atoms connecting them from a ring having 6 carbon atoms, m and n are, independently of one another, 0 or 1 and (m+n) is 1 or 2, and R is a phenyl or naphthyl radical which may be unsubstituted or substituted by an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an amino or dialkylamino group having a total of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The invention further relates to a process for preparing aldehydes by reaction of an olefinic compound having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of this catalyst.
