Abstract
The invention relates to a process for dissolving oxides deposited on a metal substrate. The object of the invention is to decontaminate substrates polluted by deposits of radioactive materials, without having any significant etching action on the substrate. This object is achieved by a process which comprises at least one cycle consisting of: (a) performing an oxidizing action using a solution containing at least permanganate, at a temperature between 80 and 85 DEG C, (b) performing a reducing action by means of a solution incorporating a reducing agent and nitric acid, at a pH below 2 and at a temperature between 80 and 85 DEG C.
