Abstract

An electrostatic precipitator comprising an inlet chamber (4,37) for receiving a gas containing fine particles to be cleaned, at least one discharge electrode (23,49), and at least one dust collection electrode (11,41) surrounding the discharge electrode (23,49) and defining a space communicating with the inlet chamber (4,37) between itself and the discharge electrode (23,49), in which a voltage is applied between the dust collection electrode (11,41) and the discharge electrode (23,49) to develop a direct current electric field therebetween so as to electrostatically collect the fine particles onto the dust collection electrode (11,41) from the gas passing through the dust collection electrode (11,41) characterized by: a communication portion (16;46,46a) formed on a wall of the dust collection electrode (11,41) to allow communication between interior and exterior of the dust collection electrode (11,41); and a guide passage (14,44) communicating with the communication portion (16;46,46a) to allow part of the gas passing through the dust collection electrode (11,41) to return into the inlet chamber (4,37).
