Abstract

Provided are a liquid crystal display device, which has low manufacturing cost, low power consumption and high luminance, and a backlight device for providing such liquid crystal display device. The backlight device is provided with a light source, which has one or more light emitting regions in a wavelength band of 400nm or more but not more than 600 nm and one or more light emitting regions in a wavelength band of 600 nm or more but not more than 700nm; and a selective reflection element disposed on the side of the light emitting surface of the light source. The selective reflection band of the selective reflection element includes at least a part of the light emitting region in the wavelength band of 600 nm or more but not more than 700 nm. The liquid crystal display device provided with such backlight device is also provided.
