Abstract

The invention is a closure system comprising a container having a finish and a land located at the top of the finish. The outer wall of the finish, just below the land, is vertical and the land slopes downwardly, toward the outside of the container, at an angle of between about 1 DEG and 10 DEG. A band, adapted to be received onto the finish of the container, has a top portion and an annular lip extending inwardly therefrom. A disk, adapted to be inserted between the band and the container land, has a raised peripheral bead, the underside of the bead presenting a downwardly facing channel containing a gasket material. The ratio of the widths of the channel: land is the range of about 2:1 to 1:1. When the disk is inserted into the band, a hook portion on the annular engages the top and inside edge of the bead.

Description

200817245 IX. Description of the Invention [Technical Field to Which the Invention Is Ascribed] The present invention relates to a closure system for a container. [Prior Art] The closure of the container is a means for sealing the contents of the container to protect the contents of the container from contamination, oxygen, moisture, leakage and evaporation. There are many types of closure systems that produce these functions. For example, two-piece closure systems are often used in canning and other food product applications. A two-piece closure system, also known as a composite closure, is typically constructed of a threaded band and a dish. The disc is inserted into the cuff and located between the cuff and the container. The dish typically has a peripheral raised nose ring with a bottom side for access to the platform portion of the container. The disc also has an annular heat-sensitive adhesive or sealant disposed on the underside of the peripheral projecting collar. The sealant provides sealing contact between the dish and the platform portion of the container and prevents lateral movement of the disk. This container will typically be filled with food or tanning products prior to sealing the closure system. This food or dip product may be commercially sterilized. The closure system can then be applied to the container. When a two-piece closure system is used to close the container, the tray is typically placed on the container to be sealed, and the threaded band is loosely fitted over the disk and screwed onto the top of the container. On the Finish. The threaded band will remain sufficiently loose at all times to allow the flow of gas under the dish during the heating and disinfection process. After the heat treatment, the threaded band can be locked -5- 200817245, and the pressure in the sealed container is reduced. This creates a partial vacuum within the container that secures the disc to the platform portion of the container to form a completely sealed seal. This type of closure is advantageous because it maintains the integrity of the product seal during the sterilization process and allows the container to be released by the consumer without the need for a secondary inner seal. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Briefly, the present invention is directed to a novel closure system that includes a container having a top end portion and a platform portion at the top of the top end portion. The outer wall of the platform portion is vertically below the platform portion, and the platform portion is inclined downward toward the outside of the container at an angle of about 1 to 10 °. A cuff is also provided for receiving in the top end of the container. The band has a top portion and an annular lip extending inwardly from the top portion. Further, a disc is provided having a projecting peripheral collar, the bottom side of the projecting peripheral collar having a downwardly facing channel for receiving a mat material. The ratio of the width of the channel to the width of the platform portion of the container is in the range of about 2:1 to 1:1. When the disc is inserted into the ferrule, the annular lip of the ferrule is a projecting peripheral collar extending inwardly beyond the disc and has a hook portion engageable therein The top side and the inner side edge of the protruding peripheral ring. In order to more fully understand the present invention, please refer to the following description in conjunction with the attached drawings. -6 - 200817245 [Embodiment] Referring now to the embodiments of the present invention, one or the following examples will be presented. Each of the examples is intended to be illustrative of the invention and is not intended to limit the invention. In fact, many modifications and variations of the present invention are possible without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Accordingly, the present invention is intended to cover such modifications and alternatives Further objects, features and aspects of the present invention are disclosed below or may be derived from the following. It is to be understood by those skilled in the art that the description of the present invention is only to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention. As used herein, the term "Finish" refers to the top portion of a container surrounding the opening of the container and is configured to receive a lid. For example, reference numeral 22 in the drawing shows a top end portion. As used herein, the term "land" refers to the portion of the tip that is in contact with the mating mat material of the disc to form a seal. For example, reference numeral 2 1 in the figure shows a flat or a portion. The term skirt is the straight wall of the constriction that extends downward from the top of the cuff. For example, reference numeral 14 in the figure shows a skirt. The term "protrusive peripheral ring" refers to a raised loop that surrounds the periphery of the dish. For example, reference numeral 3 2 in the drawing shows a projecting peripheral ring. 200817245 The term "closed mat material" means any type of sealing material that can be placed between the disc and the platform portion of the container to prevent leakage of substances such as gases or fluids. For example, reference numeral 34 in the figure shows a mat material. As shown in the figures, the present invention is directed to a novel closure system i 〇 comprising a container 20 and a closure engageable with the container 20. The closure of the present invention can comprise a two piece composite closure. In general, a dish 30 is inserted inside a cuff 1 1 between the cuff and the container 2 . The band 1 1 has a top portion i 2, an annular lip 13 extending inwardly from the top portion 丨 2, and a skirt 丨 4 extending downwardly from the top portion 丨2. The disc 3 has a central portion 31 and a projecting peripheral ring 3 2 surrounding the central portion 31. The bottom side of the collar 32 may be provided with a downwardly facing channel 33 for receiving a mat material 34. The mat material 34 is designed to seal the disc 30 to the container platform portion 21 under pressure. The band 1 1 is screwed onto the container through the annular threads 16 and 23 which are respectively provided on the outer side surface of the container top end portion 2 2 and the inner side surface of the band skirt portion 14. The annular threads 16 and 23 are mutually tolerant and form a tight fit between the cuff 1 1 and the container 20, thereby adhering the adhesive pad material 34 of the disc 30 to the platform of the container 20. On the 21st. In some embodiments of the invention, the annular threads 16 and 23 are continuous annular threads. A continuous loop of threads contains an uninterrupted outer spiral. In certain other embodiments, the annular threads 16 and 23 are broken threads or ears. An ear thread is designed to set the thread segments around the top end of the container at equal intervals. The closure has a mating portion engageable with each thread segment. -8- 200817245 In an embodiment of the invention, at least one annular collar 40 is disposed on the upper surface of the top portion 12 of the band 11. In some embodiments, two or three annular collars 40 are provided on the upper surface of the top portion 12 of the band 11. These annular collars 40 can be circular, square or any other shape. These annular collars provide additional structure and stability of the cuff 1 1 when the cuff is locked to the container. When the conventional two-piece closure of the cuff is screwed onto a container, an uneven force can cause the cuff to bend. An annular collar 40 located on the upper surface of the top portion 12 of the band 1 1 provides cuff stability and reduces unwanted bending on the cuff. In some embodiments, the container platform portion 21 is inclined downwardly at an angle A (shown in Figure 3) between about 1 ° and 10 ° toward the outside of the container. In some embodiments, the container platform portion 21 is inclined downwardly toward the outside of the container at an angle A between about 3 and 7 degrees. In still other embodiments, the container platform portion 21 is inclined downwardly toward the outside of the container at an angle A of about 5° so that the inner edge of the container platform portion is about 5° from the outer edge of the container platform portion. The bottom side 19 of the top portion 12 of the cuff 1 1 and the channel 33 may also be inclined downwardly at an angle B and C towards the outside of the closure system, respectively, and the angles are substantially equal to the angle A of the container platform portion. . In one embodiment of the invention, the container platform portion 21, the dish channel 33, and the top portion 1 2 are each inclined downward toward the outside of the container at an angle of about 5°. In some commercially available containers, the platform portion region has a downwardly inclined angle of about 15 °. In contrast, a nearly straight platform portion, between about 1 ° and 10 °, allows the 200817245 close-fitting material 34 to be completely covered when the disc 30 is tightly attached to the container 20. Container platform portion 21. In addition, if the angle of the disc and the band is equal to the angle of the platform portion of the container, the sealing area can be further enlarged. In order to produce a specific angle on the platform portion of the container, the container 20 is extruded and then removed from the rotating wheel, leaving excess plastic on the top end to become a burr. This material can then be removed using a rotating blade. This blade can be set at any angle, for example 5 ° below the flat surface. The blade then separates the container from the burr at a 5 angle. This can form an angle at which the inner edge of the container platform portion is slightly above the outer edge of the container platform portion. This nearly straight platform portion region allows the mat material 34 to be more evenly distributed over the container platform portion 21. The disc and the cuff can be made to have the same angle. In certain embodiments, the cuff 1 1 has a top side central opening 18. In this embodiment, the annular lip 13 constitutes a peripheral edge 17 of a top side opening 18. The disc 30 of the capping system 1 is inserted between the cuff 11 and the container platform portion 21. It can be accommodated in the cuff 1 1 just below the inwardly extending annular lip 13 of the cuff 1 1 . The disc 30 is rotatably movable within the cuff 1 1 . Similarly, when the disk 30 is fixed by the adhesive pad material 34 and the container platform portion 21 by friction, the band Η can still be rotated. When the band 11 is fastened to the container 20, the dish 30 can serve as a seal for the container 20 (surface in Fig. 4). The adhesive pad material accommodating channel 33 is designed to form a sealing portion together with the platform portion 21 of the container 20. In one embodiment, the 'adhesive pad material 34' may be a plastisol. A plastisol is a liquid mixture of a resin and a plasticizer that cures by heating -10- 200817245. In one embodiment of the invention, a disc provided with a plastisol liner forms an airtight seal on the platform portion of the container to prevent ingress of oxygen or other contaminants. In some embodiments of the present invention, when the disc 30 is inserted into the cuff 1 1 , the sorrow lip 13 of the habitat 1 1 will extend inwardly beyond the protrusion of the disc 30. The protuberance ring 3 2 has a hook portion 15 that can engage the inner edge of the collar 32. In a typical closure system, when the cuff is locked to the platform portion of the container, the downward force due to the applied torque pulls the disc-like insert outward. However, in the present invention, when the band 11 is locked to the container platform portion 21, the hook portion 15 of the lip portion 13 exerts a downward force on the top and inner edges of the collar 32, because A uniform downward force is formed on the top, outer and inner side surfaces of the platform portion 21 of the container. The platform portion of the container thus forms a channel in the mat material to force the mat material to be evenly distributed on the top, top and outer sides of the container platform portion. This allows the mat material to be better sealed to the container platform portion and to prevent the inflow or outflow of gaseous or liquid materials. In some other embodiments of the invention, the ratio of the width of the channel 33 to the width of the container platform portion 21 is in the range of about 2:1 to 1:1. In some particular embodiments, the ratio of the width of the channel 33 to the width of the container platform portion 21 is in the range of about 1.75:1 to 1:1. In other embodiments, the ratio of the width of the channel 3 3 to the width of the container platform portion 21 is in the range of about 1 · 5 : 1 to 1:1. In still other embodiments, the ratio of the width of the channel 3 3 to the width of the container platform portion 21 is in the range of about 1 · 4 8 : 1 to 1:1. In these embodiments, the width of the channel 33 is slightly greater than the width of the platform portion 21 of the container with which the -11 - 200817245 is engaged. The narrower channel 33 is advantageous because when the disk 30 is pushed down onto the container platform portion 21, the area of the adhesive pad material 34 within the channel 33 will be completely distributed throughout the container. The top side, the inner side, and the outer side of the platform portion 2 1 are. In a particular embodiment of the invention, the outer wall 24 of the container tip portion 22 is located above the annular thread 16 just below the platform portion 21 and is vertical. Typically, the outer wall of the top end of the container on the container will be slightly inclined inwardly. This does not provide a large contact area for the gasket material seal. Molding the outer wall 24 of the top end portion 22 into a completely straight vertical wall portion increases the area of the container platform portion 21 that is in contact with or obscured by the adhesive pad material 34 of the dish 30. This allows the contact area of the seal to be maximized, while the cover cuff 1 1 produces an equal amount of central clamping force on the top, inner and outer edges of the container platform portion 21. During processing and sterilization, the container 20 of the present invention can be filled with a food or beverage product prior to sealing the closure system 1 . The closure system 10 can then be attached to the container 20. The dish 30 is placed on the container 20, and the cuff 1 1 is screwed onto the container 20. The container 20 can then be heated and sterilized. The closure system 10 of the present invention advantageously maintains the integrity of the product seal during sterilization, allowing the container 20 to be unwound by the consumer without the need for a secondary inner seal. The components of the closure system of the present invention can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, plastic or glass. In some embodiments of the invention, each of the container, the dish and the cuff may be made of the same material, such as plastic. In certain other embodiments, the containers, dishes, and cuffs can be made from a variety of materials, and plastic cuffs, -12-200817245. In a particular implementation, the dish is made of metal. In other embodiments, the cuff strip can have a detachable ring and a series of inwardly projecting spikes that can be ejected such that the disc is metallic. Made of a special stainless steel. Optionally, in the embodiment, the dish has a center portion of -13-200817245, which has sufficient flexibility to be partially pulled inwardly into the opening of the container when the pressure in the container is less than the pressure outside the container. Inside the mouth. The deflection of the central portion of the dish provides a means of visual inspection of the presence or absence of the seal seal. In certain embodiments, the container of the present invention may be extrusion blow molded and may be made of any suitable plastic material known in the art. The container can be of any suitable size and can be used to accommodate a corresponding two-piece closure system. In an embodiment, the container may comprise a can. In some embodiments, this may include a bottle, such as a baby or child bottle. This bottle can be filled with milk, human milk or baby food.
