Abstract
To provide a process for manufacturing a shaped item having high-precision unevenness and having a surface of large dimension. There is provided a process for manufacturing a metal shaped item involving the operation of cutting a workpiece by means of a cutting tool with the use of a machine tool, characterized in that the cutting operation includes the step of carrying out cutting under such conditions that at a working point, the cutting tool exhibits a rigidity of 0.1 kg/[mu]m or higher, a vibration displacement of 50 [mu]m or below, a temperature displacement of +/-0.5 DEG C or less and a cutting speed of 100 to 50,000 mm/min, while at the time of performing the cutting step, a cutting oil of 0.01 to 50 Pa S viscosity is caused to flow out at a flow rate of 1 L/min or greater at a position apart from the working point by a given length selected from the range from 1 mm to the diagonal length of the workpiece.
