Abstract

The method of manufacturing a multi-piece component includes the steps of mounting a work-piece blank 1 in a machine tool and machining a profile of the multi-piece component from the work-piece blank, with the profile defining at least some individual pieces 3, 4, 5 of the multi-piece component, all the pieces of the multi-piece component being attached together; mounting a clamp (10, Figure 6) on the work-piece, the clamp being attached to at least two pieces of the multi-piece component defined in profile; machining the profile to separate at least one of the pieces from the profile, the separated piece being supported by the clamp; and removing the clamp. A multi-piece component includes a first piece with at least one section of a first diameter bounded by spaced apart elements of greater dimension than the first diameter. At least one second piece is mounted on but separated from the at least one first section and retained thereon between the spaced apart elements. The at least one second piece consists of a continuous element extending around the first section and being free from joints.
