Abstract

To provide a powdery oxygen absorbent having such properties that make itself compatible with metaldetectors, microwave-safe and water-free and having both oxygen absorbing rate and oxygen absorption quantity equal to or higher than conventional iron-based oxygen absorbents. The powdery oxygen absorbent includes a thermoplastic polymer (A) which with allylic hydrogen atoms and/or hydrogen atoms bound to tertiary carbon atom in the molecule, has a Mooney viscosity from 10 to 400, and no crystal melting peak or a melting point less than 75 DEG C by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and an oxidation accelerating ingredient (B) and that the absorbent has a specific surface area of 60 cm<SP>2</SP>/g or more.
