Abstract

An air conditioner includes an indoor unit having a housing that accommodates therein a heat exchanger and a fan for blowing off air heat exchanged by the heat exchanger into an indoor space. The air conditioner indoor unit is provided with an air filter disposed upstream of the heat exchanger with respect to the direction of flow of the air towards the indoor space, a slidable suction nozzle assembly having a suction port confronting the air filter and operable to suck dust particles, caught by the air filter, from the air filter, and a suction device communicated with the suction nozzle assembly. The suction nozzle assembly includes a sucking position changing mechanism for repositioning the position of the suction port relative to the air filter and a dust separating member movably associated with the sucking position changing mechanism. The dust separating member is held in contact with the air filter only at a location in the vicinity of the suction port.
