Abstract

An air conditioner includes an indoor unit including a housing, which accommodates therein a heat exchanger and a fan for blowing air heat-exchanged by the heat exchanger. This air conditioner also includes a filter assembly including a filtering net for removing dust from the air that flows across the heat exchanger, a suction nozzle device movable in a first direction along the filtering net, and a suction device connected with the suction nozzle device. The suction nozzle device in turn includes a suction nozzle having a suction slit and a belt disposed on the suction nozzle with at least a portion thereof covering the suction slit and having a belt slit defined therein and adapted to be driven in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction, along the suction slit. A position detecting means is provided for detecting a position of the belt slit in the second direction so that the cleaning capability of the suction nozzle device can be varied in dependence on the position of the belt slit detected by the position detecting means.
