Abstract

A printer whose ribbon guide is detachably connected with a print head or a carriage is provided. The ribbon guide thereof can be exchanged when changes the ink ribbon. The gap between an upper surface of a medium and the print head due to the wear of the surface of the ribbon guide in contact with the medium is prevented from changing. Thus the print quality is not lowered down and the rolling of the ink ribbon is preventing from being obstacle. The printer includes a carriage 23 moving in a direction perpendicular to the transporting direction of the medium, a print head 15 carried on the carriage 23 for printing on the medium, a ribbon guide 16 guiding the ink ribbon to the front end of the print head 15. The ribbon guide 16 has a medium-guiding surface for contacting the medium. The ribbon guide 16 is detachably installed on the carriage 23 or the print head 15.
