Abstract

A printer is provided with a print head moving along a direction perpendicular to a transporting direction of a medium and printing on the medium, a guide member moving with the print head and in contact with the medium such that the print head and the medium are divided with a gap, and a platen moving up and down relative to the print head and pressing the medium upward to the guide member. The platen is installed on a supporting member through a resilience member and is energized upwardly by the resilience member. When the thickness of the medium is above a predetermined value, the platen is further energized by a resilience assistant mechanism. Thus, the printer can properly control the pressing force towards to the medium according to the thickness of the medium by using a simplified structure. No matter the medium is a bankbook or a paper, the print on the medium can be stable and the skew on the medium can be prevented.
