Abstract

This invention provides a desulfurizing agent exhibiting ultra-high performance capability and allowing sulfur to be removed from a sulfur-containing compound instantaneously in a one-stage process with high efficiency, and also capable of being regenerated and used repeatedly; a method for producing the same; a method of desulfurization capable of effectively removing sulfur from a sulfur-containing compound using the same; and a method for producing high purity hydrogen gas for use in a fuel cell on a large scale at a low cost using high degree of the desulfurizing agent . A desulfurizing agent is characterized in that it is represented by the general formula: ZnFe2O4/SiO2/a molybdenum compound (MoS2 and/or MoO3), or ZnFe2O4/SiO2/a molybdenum compound/a titanium compound(TiO2). An instantaneous desulfurization is achieved by contacting a sulfur-containing compound with the desulfurizing agent. Meanwhile, an oxidation regenerated desulfurizing agent can be used or the desulfurization can be temporarily stopped. Further, high purity hydrogen for fuel cell can be obtained by a reforming treatment after desulfurization.
