Such multilayer film and container would be useful for medical applications. This invention provides for the provision of a multilayer film consisting of first, third, and fifth layers produced from ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer with a density of 0.930 to 0.950 g/cm³, and second and fourth layers produced from a resin blend comprising 35 to 55% by weight of polypropylene with a density of 0.900 to 0.930 g/cm³, 40 to 60% by weight of ethylene alpha-olefin elastomer with a density of 0.860 to 0.900 g/cm³, and 2 to 8% by weight of high-density polyethylene with a density of 0.955 to 0.970 g/cm³, and a container (intravenous fluid bag) fabricated from these components. Such multilayer film and container would be useful for medical applications.

Claims

1. A multi-layered film in which the first and fifth layers are made from (A) ethylene.alpha-olefin copolymer with a density of 0.930 to 0.950 g/cm³. The second layer is made from (B) a resin blend containing ethylene. (C) a resin blend consisting of 35 to 55% by weight of polypropylene with a density of 0.900 to 0.930 g/cm³, 40 to 60% by weight of ethylene alpha-olefin elastomer with a density of 0.860 to 0.900 g/cm³, and 1 to 10% by weight of high-density polyethylene with a density of 0.955 to 0.970 g/cm³; or (B) a resin blend consisting of 35 to 55% by weight of polypropylene with a density of 0.900 to 0.930 g/cm³, 40 to 60% by weight of ethylene alpha-olefin elastomer with a density of 0.860 to 0.900 g/cm³, and 2 to 8% by weight of high-density polyethylene with a density of 0.955 to 0.970 g/cm³. 0.970 g/cm³. The third layer is made from ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer (A) or (D) resin blends consisting of 40 to 60% by weight of polypropylene with a density of 0.900 to 0.930 g/cm³ and 40 to 60% by weight of ethylene alpha-olefin elastomer with a density of 0.860 to 0.900 g/cm³. The fourth layer is made from resin blend (C).

2. A multi-layer film as per claim 1, in which the second layer is produced from a resin blend (C) and the third layer is produced from ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer (A).

3. Multilayer films as per claim 1 or 2, in which polypropylene isotactic polypropylene has a melt flow rate (MFR) of 1 to 40 g/10 min (230°C) and a melting point of 140°C to 170°C.

Multilayer films according to any one of Reservations 1 through 3, where the proportion of each layer falls within the following ranges depending on the total film thickness: First layer: 5 to 15%; Second layer: 25 to 45%; Third layer: 2 to 15%; Fourth layer: 25 to 45%; and Fifth layer: 7 to 20%.

5. Multilayer films according to claim 4, where the proportion of each layer falls within the following range depending on the total film thickness: First layer: 5 to 10%; Second layer: 30 to 45%; Third layer: 2 to 10%; Fourth layer: 30 to 45%; and Fifth layer: 7 to 15%.

6. Multilayer films pursuant to claim 4 or 5, where the total film thickness is between 200 and 300 micrometers.

7. A container consisting of a multi-layered film as described in any of the claims 1 through 6, which shall be constructed using the first layer of the multi-layered film as the outer layer and the fifth layer as the inner layer.

8. The container under claim 7 shall be constructed by inserting a polyethylene port component between the film sheets and melting them together.
