Claims (15)

The derivative 2-cyano-1,3-dione, with formula I: (chemical formula), where: R is: - a straight-chain or branched alkyl group with up to 6 carbon atoms which is selectively replaced by one or more halogen atoms, which may be the same or different; or a cycloalkyl group with 3 to 6 carbon atoms which is selectively replaced by one or more groups selected from R5 and one or more halogen atoms, which may be the same or different; R1 is: - halogen atom or hydrogen atom; or a straight-chain or branched alkyl group with up to 6 carbon atoms which is selectively replaced by -OR5; or a group selected from R5 cyano-nitro -SR5, -OR5, -O(CH2)mOR5, or -CO2R5; R2 and R3, each of which may be the same or different, are: halogen or hydrogen atom, or a straight-chain or branched alkyl group with up to 6 carbon atoms which is selectively replaced by -OR5; Or a group chosen from R5, nitro, cyano, -OR5, -O(CH2)mOR5, or -CO2R5; with the requirement that at least one of the R2 and R3 groups is hydrogen; each R4 and R5 group, which may be the same or different, is: a straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group with up to 6 carbon atoms, which is chosen to be replaced by one or more halogen atoms, which may be the same or different; m is an integer from 1 to 3; n is 0, 1, or 2; with the requirement that when n is O, R1 must not be -SR5; the enolic monomer form of those substances, or the agriculturally acceptable salt of that enolic monomer form.

Compounds according to claim 1, which: (a) R1 is: - a halogen atom or a hydrogen atom, or a group chosen by -OR5; or R5, or nitro; and/or (b) each R2 and R3, which may be the same or different, is: - a halogen or hydrogen atom, a straight-chain or branched alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms chosen by -OR5; or a group chosen by R5, nitro, cyano, -OR5, -O(CH2)mOR5, or -CO2R5; which is provided that at least one of the R2 and R3 groups is hydrogen; and/or (c) R4 is: - a straight-chain or branched alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms chosen by replacement with one or more halogen atoms, which may be the same or different; and/or (d) R5 is: - a straight-chain or branched alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms chosen by replacement with a halogen atom. One or more atoms which may be the same or different; and (e) "halogen" means chlorine, bromine or fluorine.
