Description
This invention relates to methods for modifying atactic polypropylene with maleic anhydride. The modified polymer can be used, for example, for the synthesis of poorly soluble surfactants, in particular lubricant additives. Atactic polypropylene with a molecular weight of 4000-30000 is obtained as a by-product in the production of isotactic polypropylene, which is generally not used in industry. A known method of modifying polypropylene, which consists in the treatment with peroxides of the reaction mixture of maleic anhydride and polypropylene in an organic solvent and nitrogen medium for 4 hours. The amount of maleic anhydride reacted is 0.87 wt.% Tl. The disadvantage of this method is the low degree of conversion of the reactants, the need for using unstable, fast-decomposing and relatively expensive initiators - peroxides. The closest to the invention in its technical essence is the method of modifying atactic polypropylene with molecular weight 4OOO ZOOOOO maleic anhydride in an organic solvent medium and inert gas atmosphere (nitrogen) at 200aSO C for 6 - 12 "G2. The content of succinic anhydride groups in the product is 12-17 wt.%. The disadvantage of this method is that a high degree of pretreatment of the reactants is achieved using relatively low molecular weight polypropylene. With polypropylene molecular weight, the conversion is reduced due to the presence of non-reactive structures in the latter.
The aim of the invention is to increase the degree of conversion of reactants.
11el is achieved by the fact that in the method of modification of atactic polypropylene by treating it with maleic anhydride in an organic solvent medium in a nitrogen atmosphere at 200250RS, the tactical polypropylene is preheated in a nitrogen atmosphere to ZOO-34CP C, kept at this temperature for 0.5-5 hours and vacuum in 200- 230 0 and a pressure of 10-30 mm Hg for 0.3-0.5 hours.
Evacuation can be carried out over a wide range of temperatures, residual pressure and time. The most optimal mode is 0.3-0.5 h at 2OO-230 С / 10.-30 mm Hg. Art.
