Description
A method for manufacturing beam electrodes for arc welding with wire rods bonded between them is proposed. The described method is more sophisticated than the known ones, since it provides a convenient beam shape for clamping in the electrode holder. This is achieved by the fact that the ends of the bars of the wire are welded on one side by piercing and ironing in the mandrel.
The drawing shows sketches illustrating the process of making beam electrodes in the manner described.
2.The electrode wire of the desired composition and diameter is cut into rods 1 of the same length, after which it is inserted into the jig 2.
The ends of the rods protruding 45–55 mm from the conductor are crimped in a heated state until they fit snugly and inserted into the sleeve 3. The latter, together with the inserted ends of the rods, are heated to the welding temperature, after which they are welded to the rods by forging. Then, the end of the beam of electrodes is shaped to be conveniently clamped (FIG. 3) into the electrode holder by irregularization in the mandrel.
3.With a sealed arrangement, the protrusions of the bar ends protruding from the conductor can be made without first putting on the sleeve 3.
The beam electrode produced is taken out of the conductor and dipped into the coating, which is the element that binds the individual rods of the beam electrode, so that no additional bonding between them is required.
