A thermal protection device is known, comprising a bridge with thermistors and a double-winding relay ij. However, this device is characterized by insufficient reliability. The closest in technical essence and the achieved result is a device for thermal conversion of the converter, which contains a sensor thermal overload sensor of the converter connected to the thyristor junction controlling, in the anode circuit of which the electromagnetic relay winding is connected. However, this device has limited functionality. The purpose of the invention is to expand the functionality. This goal is achieved by the fact that the device is equipped with a transistor and an additional relay, the winding of which is connected to the collector circuit of the transistor, and the contacts to the anode circuit of the thyristor, and the heat overload sensor is made on a two-stage mercury thermo-contact, the contacts of the first step which are connected to the base of the transistor, and the second - with the control electrode of the thyristor. The drawing shows a diagram of the device. The circuit contains a two-stage mercury contactor 1 placed on converter 2 buses. The first step of a mercury thermal contact is connected via a divider on resistors 3 and 4 to the base of transistor 5, the collector circuit of the relay 6 is connected to the collector circuit. The second step of thermoreactor 1 is connected via a splitter on resistors 7 and 8 with the control electrode of the thyristor 9, which is solid and in series with the 3 contact contact 10 of the relay 6 and the winding of the relay 11. When a certain bus temperature is reached, the contact of the first stage is closed by thermal contact 1, giving the unlocking signal to the transistor 5, and the relay 6 is activated, which acts through the control system to reduce the load current of the converter. The converter continues operation with reduced current. Contact 10 of relay 6 closes the anode circuit of the thyristor 9. With a further increase in temperature, the contact of the second stage of the thermocontactor 1 closes, which supplies unlocking voltage to the thyristor 9, relay 11 triggers and sends a signal to turn off the converter,
