Description
METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF DEEP ENGRAVING
Taken on March 8, 1944, to the Committee for Hearing at the SNK of the USSR Published December 31, 1946
This invention relates to the field of hand-made printing plates with in-depth glasses for printing engravings.
Until now, an in-depth engraving was carried out with a chisel or by etching a metal. But metal engraving boards have a number of disadvantages (oxidability, heavy weight, etc.). In addition, the technique of metal engraving requires long-term practice; The engraving of the tool is a very laborious pad. Therefore, mass engraving is not common and engraving is not used in many cases in which it could give a better reproduction effect than other methods.
Он имеет- ту отличительную особенность , что- в качестве граверных дасок примен ют пластины из акрОЛита (называемого также органическшм стекло м, плексигласом и акролитамИ().The proposed method makes it possible to reduce the aforementioned disadvantages of manual in-depth engravings on metal. It has a distinctive feature that, as an engraving, use plates made of acrylics (also called organic glass, plexiglass, and acrolites AND).
On acrolite, it is possible to apply not only almost all known engraving styles, but also a number of new methods of obtaining in-depth printing, his images, which have certain advantages and give a special, characteristic effect to engraving.
For example, for an engraving, the black manner of the acrolitsway surface can give a very fine grain with significantly less labor and time than metal boards (conventional methods of rocking or faceting). For this purpose, the surface of the acrolite board is treated for several minutes with a stream of sand under a pressure of 2 to 3 atm. with a compressor and a sandblaster (for example, an apparatus for cleaning building facades). The amount of grain obtained at the surface of the board can be controlled by the choice of sand sifted through sieves of certain numbers. The density of the granulation and the depth of the points can be adjusted by the distance from the end of the nozzle of the sandblaster (sprayer) to the surface of the board. In addition to a uniform granulation with a stream of pitch, you can pass the surface of the board with a rocking chair or a side grinder. When performing engravings in a black manner, the daosh clears the grounded surface with a sharp knife in order to obtain a different granulation pitch on the surface areas corresponding to, different M tones of the engraved image.
To obtain bright areas of the engravable "3o6pa), with less cost (artist's artwork and with better effect, you can protect the corresponding places of the acrolite board's surface before grading the appropriately shaped masks made of kartan or plywood. The masks are attached to the board with wire through holes made in acrolite with a needle.
чистую гл нцевую поверхность акролита на местах, соответствующих светлъ11М местам изображени .Protecting the bright spots of the composition before grading can also be accomplished by uncovering them with the help of three hard brushes, using m-azka (about 1 MM thick) so-called “relief flippers. Hardened smears of paste can withstand the action of a stream of sand. After zerpeni paste smear can be cleaned, naked. a clean, glossy surface of acrolite at the places corresponding to light of the image.
д.The technique of bringing an engraving in a black manner on acrolite to a depleted state is approximately the same as for an engraving on metal: erasure or addition of the edges of light and dark places, refinement of CLEANISX of places with a needle, cutter, etc.
II. Ii. The use of acrolit as engraving boards makes possible a more or less embossed engraving technique, which has the distinctive feature that, on those places, acrolitic surface surfaces that correspond to light TOiHaiMi and gaps are enhanced by acrylic film lacquer layers of a pattern . Liquid acrolitic lacquer, a solution of the surface layers of the acrolitic board, destroys the granular structure of the surface of the board, makes it smooth and organically binds to the drink, forming
Hard, as acrylic Light, surface
For this purpose, acrylic paint is produced, acrolite solution in dichloroethane or another suitable solvent in various proportions in order to have varnishes of different texture from liquid to thick.
An acrolite® road, gritted with sand, is superimposed on the drawing and, using the transparency of the board, everything (The surface of the surface, under which the bright parts of the image are visible, is covered with a liquid acrolitic varnish with a watercolor brush. The lighter it is, the thicker the layer of varnish must be applied, the more it destroys the granularity of the surface of the board, and therefore its susceptibility to paint, the tone on the print will be less strong there.
Если примен ть толстые слои лака (до -1-2 мм), то получитс микрорельефна форма, котора при печатании дает на оттиске «заглубление (вдавливание в бумагу ), создающее овоеобразный дополнительный эффект гравюры («оро-гравюры), подобный старинным китайским и английским ксилогравюрам .If you apply thick layers of varnish (up to -1-2 mm), you will get a moth-eye form, which, when printed, gives an imprint "indentation (indentation in the paper), creating an ovoid additional engraving effect (like an ancient Chinese and English xylogravures.
III. Iii. Engraving on acrolite boards has advantages, compared with engraving on metals, in terms of error correction.
To} Loosen too strong touches or completely destroy separate touches, groups of strokes and spots, apply liquid acrolit varnish and acrolitic glue (thickened with a thick cream consistency). The lacquer hardened and hardened in the corrected lacquers shall be ground. It is possible to re-apply the strokes with engraving and, if necessary, to re-correct them, covering them partially or completely with varnish.
To repair or complete rework of large surfaces of an engraved acrolite board
You can apply the well-known breakdown method. For this cut, the wrongly etched part is in the form of a piece of acroli. This is any correct | Vilna or indefinite shape with the help of a thick or narrow (for example, circular) file and insert a new piece of acrolite of the same shape {heated era. Preliminary. spreading and smearing the edge with acrolite glue); gaps, if any, can be filled with liquid acrolite lacquer. Kopda varnish hardens, grind the spa surface and re-do the removed part of the engraving.
