Description
Before switching on the battery, the thyristor 4 is locked. The base of the transistor 3 is connected to the negative bus of the rectifier through the resistor 7 and the resistance of the locked thyristor 4. The base current is practically absent, the transistor and the thyristor are locked. When the battery is properly connected, the base current appears, the transistor is unlocked and the thyristor is unlocked by the collector current. A battery charge current appears. With the appearance of the charging current, the signal lamp 9 lights up, indicating that the battery is properly connected and that the charging current is present. In this case, the voltage drop across the lamp 9 and the resistor 8 blocks the transistor 3, since the polarity of this voltage is applied with the opposite sign to the emitter-base junction. The thyristor is not locked. Thus, after turning on the charge current, the current through the transistor turns off and only the current through the divider 5-7 remains. This current is much smaller than the collector current, and the less the charge current, therefore it can be neglected as a destabilizing factor. The capacitor 10 delays the opening of the transistor when the battery is disconnected until the thyristor is completely locked. Without a capacitor, after the battery is disconnected, the transistor opens immediately and, while the thyristor is not yet locked, the base current of the transistor is established through a resistor 7 and an open thyristor. Accordingly, the collector current keeps the thyristor in the open state. Thus, in this case, when the battery is disconnected and connected to the wrong polarity without turning off the entire device
