Description
Modern technology for the production of synthetic resins and plastics employs an extremely large number of condensation reactions with aldehydes of phenol, crozods, naphthols, carsisamide, aromatic amines, etc. A number of patents also describe the use of various coal and coal tar fractions as active additives. In this case, the constituent parts of a phenolic nature, which are contained in the coal tar, play an active role. The authors have made a study with the aim of using various peat resins for condensation with formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and furfural, and it turned out that peat resins obtained by coking or peat gasification, when reacting with aldehyde in a special way, form very valuable resin-like products depending on from the reaction conditions either readily polymerizing under the influence of heating to a solid, non-melting and insoluble rubber-like state, or polymerizing very slowly or remaining EU fusible and soluble. A detailed study of the peat cleaved deposits of the USSR showed that the processing of some of their fractions or alkaline extracts with aldehydes formed very valuable artificial resins.

Peat to tar is dispersed into fractions. The fraction boiling in the range of 170 - 300 °, or separate parts of this fraction, consisting of a complex mixture of compounds of the phenolic nature of acid esters, etc., are treated with 10 / o-alkali or lime milk. The alkaline extract is purified from neutral oil by washing with benzene or by stripping with superheated steam, after which it is decomposed with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid with CO2 or other acids. The resulting product, separated from the aqueous layer by treating it with formalin in the presence of alkaline or acidic catalysts with an amount of 40 / o-th formalin of 80-120% (or an appropriate amount of acetaldehyde or furfural) by weight of the stretch, forms a resinous product, which at a certain thermal processing becomes insoluble and infusible. The primary resin is soluble in acetone, alcohol benzene, etc., and can be mixed with fillers for the manufacture of plastics using conventional methods.
Example I. 100 g of an alkaline extract from a peat, coke oven or gas generating resin obtained by removing the resin with a 10/2 alkali and washing the extract with benzene or stripping with superheated steam followed by decomposition with an acid, 100 g of formalin (40 ° (o) or 58 paraldehyde and 4 i caustic soda are heated under reflux for about 1.5 hours at the boiling point of a water bath, followed by neutralization of the alkaline catalyst with acid (lactic, acetic) after termination of condensation. The resulting resin is dried under vacuum, dissolved in a mixture of alcohol and benzene, mixed with 100 g of wood flour (or other mineral or organic filler) and again dried. The resulting powder is used to stamp articles on a hot press in the usual way.

Example II 100 g of alkaline extract from peat gum obtained by removing H / O alkaline with washing extract with benzene or blowing off with superheated steam and subsequent decomposition with acid, 50 g of formalin (40 ° / o) or 29 g of paraldehyde and hydrochloric acid are heated with reflux for 1-3 hours in a boiling water bath. Example P1. 100 g of alkaline extract, 100 g of fuzzofurol, 10% diluent of concentrated hydrochloric acid in alcohol are treated by heating in a water bath for 1-1.5 hours. The resulting product is dried under vacuum. A reactive resin is obtained.
Example IV 100 g of the peat gum fraction 160 - 300 °, 50 g of formalin (40%) or 29 g of paraldehyde, 3 g of caustic soda are heated under reflux on a boiling water bath for 3-4 hours, after which the condensation product is dried in vacuum.
