FIELD: production of catalysts for chemical processes. SUBSTANCE: carrier based on aluminium oxide and glass powder is produced by mixing aluminum hydroxide with finely crystalline boehmite activated with acid and glass powder with subsequent molding, drying and calcination. Additionally introduced during mixing is combustible addition in the amount of 20-25% of mass of calcined carrier. Used as aluminium hydroxide is ground gibbsite with mass ratio to finely crystalline boehmite of (0.7-0.3):1, or ground gibbsite subjected to thermochemical activation with mass ratio to crystalline boehmite of (20-1):1. Glass powder is introduced in the amount of 15-25% of mass of calcined carrier. EFFECT: higher mechanical strength of carrier, higher activity and selectivity of silver catalyst based on present carrier. 2 cl, 3 tbl
