Description
Methods are known for the determination of gases in metals by the method of vacuums melting samples, which is based on the principle of extraction of gases with subsequent analysis of them in various ways.
A feature of the proposed method is that it allows determining the content of gases in the local zone of the sample, selected by an electron beam focused on a point using mass spectrometric analysis.
For carrying out the method of analyzing gases in metals and cermets, a mass spectrometer and an electron gun with a focused electron beam are used.
The equipment layout is shown in the drawing.
8.A polished metal sample 1, placed in the cavity of the electron gun 2, is supplied with a strictly dosed in time and power pulse of a stream of electrons focused at a point. At the same time, hydrogen is released from the metal of the molten area, and the pressure in the electron gun, measured by gauge 3, increases. Due to the pressure difference in the cavity of the electron gun 2 and in the analyzer 4 chamber of the mass spectrometer, the gas through the open inlet valve 5 enters the ion source 6. Depending on the amount of gases in the sample, the analysis can be carried out with the valve 7 open or closed from the analyzer chamber. The gases from the cavity of the electron gun and the vacuum tubes are removed through the valve 8.
After analyzing the gas at one point, the electron beam is moved to another point, and the process is repeated as necessary.
