Description
Dialkylphosphinic acids are usually obtained by reacting dchalkylphosphites with the corresponding Grignard reagents at molar ratios of reagents 1 and then oxidizing the reaction mass (containing dialkylphosphine oxides) with hydrogen peroxide. The disadvantage of this method is the high consumption of Grignard reagents as a result of the fact that in the first stage of the process 1 mole of the reagent decomposes to the corresponding hydrocarbon:
(RO)2P(0)H + 3RMgx (0)H +RH + 3Mgx(OH).(RO) 2P (0) H + 3RMgx (0) H + RH + 3Mgx (OH).
To eliminate this drawback, it is proposed to use not the dialkylphosphites as the starting product, but the sodium salts corresponding to them. The latter are treated with Grignard reagent, after which the reaction mass is treated first with hydrochloric acid and then with hydrogen peroxide. In this case, the reaction proceeds as follows:
(RO2)PONa+ 2RMgx - RaPONa - R2P(O)H -- R2P(O)OH.(RO2) PONa + 2RMgx - RaPONa - R2P (O) H - R2P (O) OH.
2Example. To 1 g-mol. sodium diethyl phosphite (from 138 g diethyl phosphite VI 23 g sodium) in 600 ml of anhydrous ether was added with stirring and cooling a solution of 2.1 g mol. of the corresponding Grignard reagent in 800 g of the same solvent so that the solution boils slightly. To complete the reaction, the mixture is boiled for 2-3 hours, after which it is treated with cooling 200-250 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The clear ethereal solution is separated from the precipitate and evaporated until the solvent is completely removed. To the heated residue (dialkylphosphine oxide) 75-100 g of 30% hydrogen peroxide is added dropwise with stirring (and there is a strong warming up). Received ClCl., O2

60-70%.New diethylphosphinic acid is purified by crystallization or by distillation in vacuo. The latter method is particularly convenient for the purification of lower acids, which are distilled without any signs of decomposition. Yield 60-70%.
