Description

In the process of producing sulphate pulp, the so-called black liquor consisting of organic and mineral parts is produced as the whole product.

For the purpose of utilization, black liquor is either evaporated and burned for the regeneration of mineral substances, or it is subjected to special treatment in order to separate the organic part, lignin, from it.

A method is proposed that makes it possible to more effectively use black liquor by extracting from it not only mineral substances, but also volatile organic acids: formic and acetic, which papiee was irretrievably lost during combustion.

The essence of the invention is that black liquor is oxidized by air under pressure in the presence of soda at a temperature above 100 °, after which the formed acids are separated from the reaction mass in a known manner.

The formic acid and acetic acid can be obtained from the black liquor either without first isolating the lignin from it or after separating the lignin from the black liquor in a known manner.

Example 1. To 150 g of black liquor containing 10% dry matter, add 5 g of soda and oxidize it with air in an autoclave at an initial pressure of 80 atm for three hours: at 100-1 h, at 125 ° -1 hour and at 150 ° - 1 hour

The yield of acetic acid is 16.4%; formic acid - 12.4%, calculated on the organic part of the dry residue.

Example 2. Black liquor in the amount of 150 g, containing approximately 14% of the dry residue, after the separation of alkaline lignin from it, is oxidized by air at a sad pressure of 15% and at a temperature of 200 ° for 1 hour.

The yield of volatile acids in terms of the organic part of the liquor after the separation of lignin from it is 31% in terms of acetic acid.

Subject invention

The method of producing formic and acetic acids, characterized in that the black liquor from the cellulose production is oxidized by air under pressure in the presence of soda at a temperature above 100 °, after which the formed acids are separated from the reaction mass in a known manner.
