1474219 Pulp manufacture from annual vegetable materials INSTITUUT VOOR BEWARING EN, VERWERKING VAN LANDBOUWPRODUKTEN 22 Aug 1974 [22 Aug 1973] 36941/74 Heading D2W Pulp and filler for use in paper manufacture is made from annual vegetable material (such as esparto, bagasse, reeds, cereal straw, maize plant residues, or chaff), by extracting the material with a 15-40% by wt. HCl solution at a temperature not greater than 50‹C until at least 50% by wt. of the hemicellulose content has been dissolved, separating the resulting fibrous mass from the acidic solution, and washing the fibrous mass with water. HCl may be recovered from the wash water for reuse in the extraction process.
