Abstract

A plate-like knife 4 for subdividing the leaves of a cake of compacted tobacco leaves in a tobacco shredding machine into elongated shreds has an elongated undulate cutting edge 8. The distance H between successive anti- nodes 8a of the cutting edge, as considered at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the cutting edge, does not exceed one millimeter and the distance L between alternate antinodes 8a, as considered in the longitudinal direction of the cutting edge, is not in excess of ten millimeters. The shreds which are obtained by resorting to such knife have a superior filling power. <IMAGE>

The invention relates to a knife for cutting compressed tobacco in the form of a tobacco into a floor; About shaped tobacco fibers, the cutting edge of which is provided with a wave-like sharpening.

Tobacco fibers are used for stuffing any kind of strand tobacco products, in particular for cigarettes. Such products require a certain degree of compaction or packing force in order to achieve sufficient hardness and also prevent so-called head loss, i.e., loss of tobacco in the head of cigarettes. In order to achieve a sufficient degree of compaction or packing strength with straight cut or straight tobacco fibers, the packing extrusion must be formed with a relatively large amount of tobacco, so that the pull resistance overcome by the smoker unnecessarily increases.

The basis of the invention is to find the shape of a knife for cutting tobacco and tobacco fibers, which is suitable for producing a stuffed extrusion with the maximum possible force of stuffing with a small amount of tobacco.

The aim of the invention is to increase the filling capacity of tobacco fibers by giving them a slight wavy shape. FIG. 1 shows the conveyor of tobacco cake with a nozzle serving as a mating element of the knife and the proposed knives; in fig. 2 is a view A in FIG. in fig. 3 - made with the encouragement of a knife for cutting tobacco tobacco fiber in an enlarged mastaba.

In the exemplary embodiment, dimensions are taken as the basis, which for a certain sort of tobacco give an optimal cutting result for a good packing force. With this in; foundation laid ,, 3 mm. This size corresponds to the width B (Fig. 3) - 0.75 mm tobacco fiber, which is achieved by respectively controlled feeding of the cake 3.

For other varieties of tobacco there may be other sizes, which however always lie within the prescribed maximum limits of L 10 mm and H 1 mm.

After stuffing, the tobacco fibers with the dimensions thus chosen in the adhesion inside the cigarette stuffing shtranga, due to their relatively weakly pronounced undulating form, have a greater stuffing strength, elasticity and permeability that provides a certain resistance to pulling. These properties are achieved using less tobacco.
