Description
The known devices for determining smoothness of paper by photoelectric measurement of light reflected from the surface of the paper pressed to the glass plate do not allow for greater accuracy in determining smoothness, since they do not ensure the complete separation of differently refracted rays.
The proposed device eliminates this disadvantage. The device provides a complete separation of the luminous fluxes reflected from the areas in contact with the surface of the glass plate and not having contact with it.
This is achieved by the fact that the glass plate is used to make full internal reflection from its surface of light rays incident at an angle greater than the limit for a given type of glass. Light streams separated in this way flow into various groups of photoelectric receivers.
1 и 2.The principle of operation and device design are explained in FIG. 1 and 2.
If the sample paper 1 (Fig. 1), pressed against the glass plate 2, is illuminated, then the rays reflected from the paper and reaching the glass are refracted differently on its face. In the areas of optical contact (point A, the rays will enter the glass almost without refraction, since the refractive indices of light in the glass and paper are close to each other. In areas where there is no contact and there is an air gap (point B), the rays are refracted so that no refracted beam extends beyond the cone, which forms with an angle normal to the glass surface not exceeding 41 °. If the direction of sight by the eye 3 (or photocell) is outside this cone, only light from the contact areas enters it; when sighted at an angle of less than 41 °, those and other areas are visible. The ratio of the intensity of light beams outside and inside the cone is a measure of the area of the sample in contact, i.e. a measure of the smoothness of the paper.
№ 118073No. 118073
The complete separation of differently scattered light rays in the proposed device is accomplished by using the phenomenon of total internal reflection of light rays from the other surface of a glass plate that transmits rays inside the specified cone to the upper photocells in the device, and the other rays are reflected to the lower photoelectric , by the difference of photocurrents which judge the degree of smoothness of the paper.
2, где: / - испытываемый образец бумаги; 2 - пуансон, на который накладываетс образец; 3 - стекл нна пластинка, к которой прижимаетс образец / пуансоном 2; 4 - осветительна лампа; 5 - конденсатор; 6 - коллектив; 7 - линза, создающа параллельный пучок лучей; 8 - верхние фотоэлементы; 9 - нижние фотоэлементы; 10 - призмы, двухлинзовые объективы, диафрагмы .The device device is illustrated in FIG. 2, where: / - test paper sample; 2 — punch on which the sample is applied; 3 — glass plate against which the sample / punch 2 is pressed; 4 - lighting lamp; 5 - capacitor; 6 - team; 7 - a lens creating a parallel beam of rays; 8 - upper photocells; 9 - lower photovoltaic cells; 10 - prisms, two-lens lenses, diaphragms.
Subject invention
An instrument for measuring paper smoothness by comparing the light fluxes measured by a photoelectric method reflected from different parts of the paper pressed to a glass plate, characterized in that, in order to completely separate the light fluxes reflected from the areas in contact with the glass surface and not having contact, said glass plate is used to effect full internal reflection from its other surface of light rays falling at an angle greater than the limit for a given type of glass , Whereby the separated light fluxes enter into different groups of photoelectric receivers.
