Abstract

A display unit (1), e.g. in the form of a television receiver is equipped with an NFC reader (2), the signal of which is available on the display unit (1) body surface. A payment in the form of an on-line or an off-line payment for the item being purchased (5) that is displayed on the display unit is confirmed by at least one tap of the mobile communication device (4) to the display unit (1). A POS payment-terminal application, preferably of the EMV standard, runs on a removable memory card (3) inserted in the slot of a mobile communication device (4); the resulting payment cryptogram is sent to the display unit (1), from where it is sent to be processed in the center (7) over the connection (8) for the reception of the TV signal. The NFC communications element on the side of the mobile communication device (4) can be located on the removable memory card (3) or even directly on the PCB board.

Description

Technical field

The invention relates to an arrangement of a display unit, in particular a television receiver, in a non-cash payment system in which purchased items are offered via a television channel and in which a mobile communication device, in particular a mobile phone, is used to effect payment. The invention also discloses a non-cash payment method using a contactless transmission link. Several elements of the present invention are related to the previously filed patent applications SK PP 58-2008 of 29.8.2008, PP 50014-2009 of 12.3.2009 (antenna on SD card), SK PP 32-2009 of 3.5.2009 (EMV terminal on SD card ), EN PP 50016-2010 of 19/04/2010 (Payment Button).

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

There are a number of patent publications which deal with the role and arrangement of a television in the sale of goods, services and payment for purchase. A whole group of patent applications such as e.g. US 2004/0249726 A1, CN 101308558, CN 101296361 (A), FR 2810132 (A1) describe in particular a process where a television shows various business items, goods or services and the customer selects the purchased item on the television similar to the choice from paper catalog. The payment process that follows the selection of the item takes place substantially outside the television set, using the specific identifier of the item purchased. Some systems for the subsequent payment process use a telephone or a mobile phone in different ways, for example to send an SMS message with an identifier and the like. These known solutions do not provide a secure and convenient payment channel, often requiring pre-registration of the phone in a given retail network.

The solution of WO 2009071616 (A1) GEMALTO uses a SIM card that connects to a television set. Such a solution requires a more complex interface, sufficient security on the TV side and also more complex

operator. Similar drawbacks and problems are associated with the solution of published applications CN 1625257A, CN 2747809 (Y), where a special remote control with a credit card magnetic strip reader is used.

The solution according to EP 1263230B1 (VISA) uses a payment smart card reader, requiring the use of a special set-top box.

To date, there are no known technical means that would make it possible to reliably and easily turn a TV into a system element for payment applications with the security required by the individual participants in the entire business relationship (credit card issuer, processing center, bank, merchant).

It is desired such a technical solution that will have a high security EMV payment application, will produce the resulting payment cryptograms just in the format of EMV standards. Such a solution is not yet known or has security risks that transferring data from a paying customer's payment card to a remote POS terminal or a merchant's virtual POS terminal may expose and misuse the communication.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

These deficiencies are substantially eliminated by a cashless payment system utilizing a display unit, in particular in the form of a television (TV) receiver and a mobile communication device, in particular in the form of a cell phone with an NFC (Near Field Communication) communication element; characterized in that the display unit is provided with an NFC reader which is connected directly or via an evaluation unit to the output interface of the display unit and the output interface is connected to the central unit. The display unit will be primarily, but not exclusively, a TV, as it is essentially a part of every household. The display device may also be in the form of a monitor which, for example, displays a television signal in a processed form from a receiving set box.

The NFC reader is positioned so that it is accessible from the outside, from a commercially available position. It can be placed under the edge of the screen, on the upper edge and so on. An NFC reader also means, but is not limited to, an RFID-based communication element, which may not only be able to read NFC / RFID tags within the appropriate range, but the term NFC reader should be understood as general broadcasting. and a receiving device having an antenna in our case positioned so as to be able to communicate with devices that approach the display unit externally.

Impregnation of the NFC reader into the display unit allows the creation of a two-way contactless communication channel with external devices. The described payment system also includes a mobile communication device, in particular in the form of a mobile phone, PDA (Personal digital assistant) and the like. The mobile communication device is provided with an NFC communication element. It may be an NFC communication element mounted directly on a PCB (printed circuit board) board, or it may be a mobile communication device with a slot into which a removable NFC communication card is inserted. In our case, the relevant slot is intended for technical means without which the mobile communication device can fulfill its basic function, so the slot in question does not directly affect the data and / or voice transmission in the operator's network, which also differentiates the SIM (subscriber identity module) interface . The removable memory card described in the present solution is independent of the SIM card of the mobile phone and can be removed and inserted into the mobile phone without interrupting normal phone functions.

For ease of deployment, it will be advantageous for the NFC communication element to be located on a removable memory card including an antenna on the side of the mobile communication device. The removable memory card may comprise a payment terminal as well as one or more payment cards. Inserting such a card into the mobile communication device creates a payment device held by the user.

Through the display unit, the user selects the item to purchase. It can be a film rental, an electronic file or it can also be goods sent by courier or a service. When selecting an item, the remote control of the display unit, the TV set can be used. After selecting the item, the user is asked to pay the amount. The user in the menu of the mobile communication device launches a payment application which activates the NFC communication element and makes the payment means available on a removable memory card. Payment of the appropriate amount will be made after the mobile communication device is attached to the NFC reader in the display unit.

The payment terminal, with associated configuration data, may be located in the removable memory card, the entire processing terminal of the POS terminal may be located on the removable memory card, and all internal payment terminal applications may be run on the removable memory card. This arrangement brings surprising technical advantages, but it would also cause complications in loading credit card data, as mobile phones do not have smart card readers. A payment card or multiple user payment cards may also be located on the same hardware means, i.e., a removable memory card. Technically, this can be ensured by providing that the removable memory card includes, in addition to the protected portion of the payment card data memory, a separate protected portion of the payment card data memory.

Several different payment procedures can be used in the proposed arrangement. When the mobile communication device is attached to the NFC reader of the display unit, the required amount of payment is transferred to the payment terminal on the removable memory card, the payment is made using the payment card chosen by the user at startup. In this case, the entire payment is made on one application. The NFC reader can be positioned so that the mobile communication device can be put down, placed on the NFC reader, and the user does not need to hold the mobile communication device during payment.

It is also possible to process the payment in several steps, which can also be separated by removing the mobile communication device from the range of the NFC reader. Dividing the payment into multiple steps, for example, allows the user to verify on his own display - that is, on the mobile communication device - that the amount entering as a payment terminal entry corresponds to the amount that is displayed when the selection is made on the display unit. This also ensures trust when purchasing through foreign display units, eg. in hotels, public places, purpose-built business terminals and the like. In this case, the user can only choose the payment card in the second step of the payment process.

If the communication between the payment card and the POS terminal is narrowed to transfer data within one hardware device that is inserted into the mobile phone while the application is running, it is not possible to monitor and misuse this communication by common means. After the payment is made, the removable memory card leaves the encrypted payment information, which information is already sufficiently secure according to the EMV (Europay MasterCard VISA) standard. A payment cryptogram is sent to the display unit and then through the wiring to the central office, which can be read and posted in the respective user bank.

Thus, the present solution makes it possible to associate a personalized payment means in a personal possession of a user with a reader in a display unit that will be generally accessible.

The POS data of the payment terminal such as encryption keys and identification data must be stored in a protected part of the memory, preferably in a so-called memory. Secure Elemente, which is characterized by prescribed hardware features and subject to appropriate certification, makes interested parties willing to entrust their sensitive data to these storage devices.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to Figures 1 to 3. Figure 1 shows a display unit in the form of a television receiver, where a purchase page can be selected with the remote control and subsequently the desired item can be selected.

Figure 2 shows the insertion of a removable memory card with an NFC antenna into a mobile phone. The size ratio shown between the removable memory card and the mobile communication device is not subject to protection, is not to scale, is intended to enhance display clarity and is therefore not to be construed narrowly in terms of the scope of protection.

Figure 3 shows a schematic connection of the central office to a TV set, to which a mobile communication device is included in the payment process.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In this example of Figures 1 to 3, there is described a system with a display unit 1 in the form of a flat-screen television having an NFC reader antenna 2 positioned at the top edge of the plastic body. The antenna location is indicated by a green LGM (Logomotion) logo. The antenna is connected to a processing unit on the PCB of the display unit 1. The output of this processing unit is connected to the interface through which the display unit 11 receives the TV signal. A mobile communication device 4 without its own NFC communication element is used in the system. This, including the NFC antenna, is located on a removable memory card 3, which in this example has the format of a microSD card. There are two payment elements and a payment terminal and separate domains with payment cards of the EMV standard. The removable memory card 3 also has a conventional flash memory for common, unprotected user data.

The user inserts the removable memory card into the micro SD slot in the mobile communication device 4 as shown in Figure 2. The user selects the purchased item 5 on the display unit 6 by means of the remote control 6 to be purchased. In this example, it is item B - rent a movie. Step by step, the user confirms the selection with the remote control 6 and the display unit i is prompted to pay for the selected item B.

The user attaches to his green LGM logo his mobile communication device 4, to which an initiation prompt is sent from the display unit 1 together with the amount of the requested payment. Receiving this prompt for a removable memory card 3 will beep and display the requested amount of payment on the display of the mobile communication device 3. The user checks the amount of the requested payment and selects the payment card from which the payment is to be made.

Subsequently, the payment-terminal application itself proceeds as if it were a relationship between a classical POS (point of hall) payment terminal and a payment card inserted in the POS terminal reader. The Secure Element stores the configuration data of the POS terminals of several persons, including the TV shop operator. Once the application is activated in the appropriate unit of the selected credit card, the course can also be governed by the risk management rules of the respective issuer. This will or will not require you to enter your credit card password. The user presses the dedicated payment button provided with the mobile communication device 4 in this example.

After the payment terminal application is terminated, the POS payment terminal and credit card connection is disconnected by software and the resulting payment cryptogram must be sent via line 8 to the central office 7, to which the user will place the mobile communication device 4 to the NFC reader 2 on the display unit i. At headquarters 7, the cryptogram is evaluated after receiving and decrypting the payment file and, in the event of a positive result, a paid rented film is sent to the display unit.

Industrial usability

Industrial applicability is obvious. According to the invention, it is possible to industrially and repeatedly produce and use imaging units with an NFC reader. These will be used primarily for making non-cash payments in connection with mobile communication devices.

Claims (6)

  1. PATENT CLAIMS
    A non-cash payment system for a television channel purchase using a separate display unit, in particular a TV set, a mobile communication device, in particular a mobile phone, characterized in that the display unit (1) is provided with an NFC reader (2) (2) is directly or via a processing unit connected to the output interface of the display unit (1), the output interface is connected to the central office (7) by the line (8) and the mobile communication device (4) is provided with NFC communication element and payment means.
  2. A cashless payment system according to claim 1, wherein the mobile communication device (4) comprises a removable memory card (3) having an NFC communication element with an antenna to form a contactless connection, a payment terminal application running unit and a protected memory with at least one credit card unit.

A non-cash payment method for a television channel purchase comprising selecting a purchased item (5) and paying by a mobile communication device (4), characterized in that the purchased item (5) is selected and displayed on the display unit (1) via an NFC reader (2) the amount of the requested payment is sent to the enclosed mobile communication device (4), the payment-terminal application is run on the removable memory card (3) and the result in the form of a payment cryptogram is sent to the NFC reader (2) 1) and then to headquarters (7).
