Abstract
A method for changing a reflectance state of a row and column array of bistable liquid crystals making up picture elements of a liquid crystal display is provided. The method is based on the insight, that less power is consumed when driving bistable cholesteric liquid crystals if the picture of the display is analysed and the driving adapted to the nature of the picture. Thus, the number of desired state changes between picture elements of adjacent rows and in the same column is counted and the polarity of the control voltage is adapted thereto.
