Abstract

A liquid crystal display comprises a first group of common electrodes (COM1) which are aligned and associated with the odd numbered data electrodes (DEi), and a second group of common electrodes (COM2) which are aligned and associated with the even numbered data electrodes (DEi). A first common voltage (VCE1) is supplied (CED) to the first group of common electrodes (COM1) and a second common voltage (VCE2) is supplied (CED) to the second group of common electrodes (COM2) when an odd numbered one of the select electrodes (SEi) is selected. The second common voltage (VCE2) is supplied (CED) to the first group of common electrodes (COM1) and the first common voltage (VCE1) is supplied (CED) to the second group of common electrodes (COM2) when an even numbered one of the select electrodes (SEi) is selected. The data driver (DD) supplies the data (DEi) to the data electrodes (DEi) such that a polarity of voltages across the liquid crystal material of adjacent cells (LCCi) of the liquid crystal display is opposite, both in the direction of the select electrodes (SEi) and in the direction of the data electrodes (DEi).
