Abstract

A hose from a mouthpiece leads up to a floating body at the water surface, in which is a normally open valve device to prevent water entering the hose. The valve device comprises float-regulated valve bodies (37, 38) with fixed valve seats (29, 30) for inhaled and exhaled air respectively. As the floating body is dragged down into the water, these valve bodies are pressed against their respective seats. Inhalation and exhalation valves (31, 32) in the floating body are used to control air flow through the hose during breathing.
