Abstract

The deformable flame-sprayed coating layer (C) is applied by high velocity oxygen gas flame-spraying (HVOF) onto a sliding body (10) guide surface comprising the same base material (M) as the body. The coating is a copper-based alloy comprising aluminium, one or more metals chosen from iron, nickel or manganese, and copper. Preferably molybdenum disulphide is added to the alloy. A corrosion-resistant layer, comprising a first guide surface material which comprises a nickel-based compound that contains chromium, tungsten and molybdenum and a second material which comprises chromium (III) oxide and/or molybdenum trioxide plus silica as an additive, is applied to the flame-sprayed layer. An alternative corrosion-resistant layer comprises a first sub-layer comprising a mixture of chromium carbide and a nickel/chromium alloy and a second sub-later comprising a mixture of a cobalt or nickel compound which contains a dispersion of hard chromium carbide and nickel/cobalt compound, each cobalt or nickel compound containing molybdenum and chromium as the main components.
