Abstract

The control method uses the required output torque of the engine for calculating the quantity of air to be supplied to the engine, with corresponding adjustment of the engine ignition angle, the mixture ratio and/or the number of engine cylinders brought into operation. Base values for the engine ignition angle, the mixture ratio and the number of operative engine cylinders are determined from the actual operating point of the engine when no external controls or restrictions are in use.
